Hello all,
My husband(29)and I(28) are going to Foster/Adoption Orientation tonight and I'm super excited. I have 2 bio daughters (9 and 2 months... yes 2 months!) and a stepdaughter (10). This step brings us closer to adding a boy to our home!:prop:

Hi,
welcome, I am relatively new to the forums. I recently completed my adoption. Good luck and I hope things go quickly and smoothly for you all!
Hi, I am ChooChoo. Dh and I are new to the adoption journey. We have come to this journey after 4 years of ART. We have had 4 failed IVF cycles and have decided to move on. We came to the realization that we wanted to be parents first. It doesn't matter if it is through pregnancy. I am looking forward to chatting with you all.
We are in Chicago, and working with Bethany Christian Services. Our preliminary application has been approved and now we are working on our formal application. I am a teacher and Dh is a social worker.
How has your family and friends responded to your decision to adopt? I have found our family was very interested while we were going through the adoption process with our first son and they are more quiet this time around. We are still in the early stages of the homestudy and have yet to begin our parenting classes. Gook luck with Bethany.

Hi, thanks for your response. Our family is very excited. Each time we talk to them, they are asking how things are going. I didn't realize the extent of the paper work with the formal application. So, we are doing pieces at a time. How long of a wait did you have until you received your first baby?
Hi welcome,
DH and I are in the process of finalizing our DDs adoption. The ride is worth it. Our family had varied reactions, some were encouraging, and some were concerned regarding privacy, and other what ifs. Now they are all welcoming towards DD. My mother who was alwasy encouraging, is besides herself with a girl in the family, since the family only had a grandson streak for a while. :-)
Hello All! Dh and I are just starting our first adoption process as well. We've finished all of our paper work and now waiting on our references for the home study. We're very excited and I can not seem to stay calm, lol... I'm just happy to begin this journey
The process to complete our paperwork, classes, and homestudy took around 8 months. The waiting was the hardest part. We were placed with our son immediately after our homestudy was complete and he was in our home four weeks later. I have heard that generally it takes African American or interracial couples about four to six months after the the homestudy is complete to be placed with an African American or biracial infant. So we were very lucky the first time around.

Where you live has an impact on how quickly you will have a placement. The southern states have a much harder time placing AA infants. Our DD was waiting when we finished all our paperwork.
Hi, my DH and I are in California and we're beginning the adoption process for the first time, also. We have a 6 yo son and are looking to adopt an domestic infant. We're very new to this journey and trying to get our footing. There's so much information to figure out.
Welcome!!
The task ahead can be a daunting. Sounds corny, but Just take it one step at a time. What path are you all looking at, foster, private?

I know we're not planning to do the foster path. We're planning to either go through an agency or a facilitator. I need to figure out what private refers to...Forgive my ignorance, I'm still learning the terminology. :o

The 4 to 6 month waiting period was right on target with me. I adopted thru a private agency and got my first call about 4 months or less after my home study was approved. That didn't work out but my daughter was placed with me about 5 months after the homestudy was completed.
By private agency, I mean as opposed to the state foster care system. That was how I initially began my adoption journey but I didn't continue that path.
My head was spinning with the adoption terminology, and then cyber space added on to that. You got it right, non foster. :-)
