Another dumb question that I should have asked Pediatrician at our 2 year appt. (I was "freaked out" realizing DD does not go back until 3 yo!). How many teeth "should" DD have at 27 months. Are there 2 year molars? How do I know if they have come in (yes, I am not very observant!!!)?

Here's what I found w/ a quick Google search: By the time a child is 3 years old, he or she has a set of 20 deciduous teeth, 10 in the lower and 10 in the upper jaw. Each jaw has four incisors, two canines, and four molars. They do cut that second set of molars around 2---H has been working on his for a little while.

Sadiegirl - no need to freak out. My daughter will also be 2.5 next month and barely has 16 teeth. The last two eye teeth have only poked in the last month or so and are not all the way down yet. We haven't even begun the 2 year old molar stage yet. She too got a late start on teeth (10.5 months before the first one) and each tooth takes forever! We've been working on eye teeth since before last Christmas! I watch two other 2 year olds the same age as my daughter. One has had his 2 year old molars since last winter sometime before he was even 2, but he's gotten all of his teeth very early. The other 2 year old is like my daughter and still missing his 2 year old molars, although his mom thinks he might be teething so his may start coming in soon. So basically, don't panick! The teeth will all come in eventually. Plus, I hear, the later the teeth (in general) come in, the healthier the teeth will be.

Well, I'll be darned. She already has 20 teeth (her teeth came thru rather early). Maybe that's where the biting stuff was coming from (non-observant mama alert!). I also have heard the later the teeth come in, the better! DD is a thumbsucker too so I'm sure her teeth are going to be messy!
I have also heard that the later the teeth come in the better. My older DS had all his teeth, including 2 yr molars, by 14 mos!!!!! Got his first 4 teeth at 3.5 mos!
Our baby is 8.5 mos and has no teeth yet. He chews on everything and is a drool monster, but nothing. Not even bumps. I LOVE his little gummy grin....didn't have it too long with the older one.
My older son had a complete set of pearly whites by about 20 months old. His first tooth came in on the day we took him home (7 1/2 mo. old). The little one got his first tooth at 8 1/2 months old and every tooth has been a saga in itself. He must have gums like cow-hide! He also didn't read the part in the child-care books that he's not supposed to have diarrhea when he's teething. We still have 4 molars to go at 2y 2 mo. ::::sigh:::: even this will pass.

There is some "movement" with the final 4. He's been drooling like crazy, almost pushing his entire hand into his mouth so he can chew on his fingers, whiny, grumpy, but NO diarrhea. I wonder if he outgrew it? I'd like to check if anything is visible on his gums, but he won't let me look and trying to put a finger into his mouth with those razor sharp little teeth is like putting a finger into a piranha's mouth. OUCH!!!
