We didn't, but I have an African niece and 2 more AA/CC nieces, and let me tell you - their hair can be difficult! The younger ones, their dad does their hair so well! I guess maybe he used to help all his sisters' with theirs... My sister has learned to work with it, in very simple styles. They mostly wear it in large pony twists. My BIL took my oldest niece to some AA hairdressers for a while, and they helped him learn about her hair. Recently, becuase she doesn't like to spend time on it - unusual for an almost 15 YO girl- they had it cut quite short all over again to avoid the time/money spent on having it braided professionally. I'm not sure I like it, but she likes having it simple and enjoys just popping a headband in each day and going.... My mom found an AWESOME book at her library about African American hairstyles. It showed how to do all kinds of braiding and twisting styles - it was really interesting. Oldest niece always wore a headscarf to bed. Younger ones never do, but they also have slightly different hair, with the CC part in there. The younger ones use a YUMMY smelling conditioner - it's in a pink and green bottle. I always forget the name!
