We were starting our adoption with Guatemala but with the recent situation we decided to look elsewhere and are looking into Korea and Vietnam. Can anyone give me any info on Vietnam???
1. What is the approximate cost??? I know its only an approximate and each "case" is different, but I heard it was cheaper than Guatemala so that was good.
2. How long for a referral?
3. How long from referral until home?
4. If you aready have a boy and a girl, can you pick the sex or no?
5. Are the children in foster care or orphanages?
6. How long is travel to pick up? Does DH have to be there the whole time?
7. Anything else you can add?
6. Any agencies you really recommend for Vietnam?
Thanks
Hi Jackie! We too adopted our son from Guatemala and have accepted a referral for our daughter in Vietnam. I will try my best to answer. Others may have slightly different answers.
1. Roughly $25,000 give or take a couple thousand. This with travel and visas.
2. Referrals have gotten longer but it looks like 6-12 months.
3. 2-3 months
4. Depends on the agency. However, from my understanding girl referrals take a bit longer.
5. I think most/all are in orphanages. It is more government structured than Guatemala. No private attorneys. :)
6. From the paperwork my agency sent, one spouse can leave early but there is extra paperwork. Usually, you will have a G&R ceremony about 1-3 days after you get to Vietnam when you will recieve your child. Your total trip is 2-3 weeks.
Good luck!

1. What is the approximate cost??? We have paid 18 K total. The only thing we have left to pay for is the flight over there, and our travel while in-country. (so we expect another 2 K for a total of $20, 000).
2. How long for a referral? When we started it was 6 months. The wait is going up. For a girl, it's over a year give or take a few months.
3. How long from referral until home? between 3-5 months. This is dependent on the country more than the agency.
4. If you already have a boy and a girl, can you pick the sex or no? some agencies WILL let you, some will not.
5. Are the children in foster care or orphanages? a little of both, depending on where they are. Mostly orphanages, I think. But the care is VERY good, for the most part.
6. How long is travel to pick up? Does DH have to be there the whole time? 2 weeks. No.
7. Anything else you can add? Make sure the agency you pick actually works in VN. Umbrella agency's are being questioned more and more, and the thought it that they might stop allowing adoptions through those agencies (in VN).
6. Any agencies you really recommend for Vietnam? My agency is a small one, but a good one. I have mixed feelings, but so far, so good. PM me for specifics if you like.
