Our caseworker finished our visits on Sept 4th and said she would have it typed up and submitted in two weeks. Three weeks later it still isnt typed and I get a letter saying I have to redo my fingerprints because for some reason they were kicked out. How long is going to take now? My homestudy cant even be submitted for approval until this part is done. My cw wont even respond to that question at all. Getting more frustrated by the day........
Childrens Home Society , Yes , I know that it will be worth it in the end , but everytime I think we have it all done so we can move forward , something else has to be done . My CW finally answered about how long this will take. Her answer, "It could take a week, or it could take two months"

Unfortunately, that;s how most of the agencies work. I need this now, oh I forgot this, I don't know what's going on, I submitted a couple of days ago, should be licensed by the end of next week.... yeah yeah yeah... I've heard it all. I say plan on not getting licensed until December, and be suprised when it happens before.
Chris73 you say in you signature that you are looking in the photolistings... Since I am attending CHS Orientation next Tueday I have to ask: is CHS not going to look for a match for you?
I don't have anything against the photolistings but I was hoping I could count on the experience of the case worker to 'find' a child that is a good match for my family. Is that not the case?

Our caseworker told us that it is primarily our job to find a child. When we find one that we are interested in , we should give her the information and she will contact childs caseworker. She doesnt have time to search for us.I know what you mean though, I thought the same thing. I thought that when we were certified that SOMEBODY out there would be trying to match us with a child. This is not the case. The caseworkers only know about the children that are available in their county. Unless a child comes available in her county and they are a possible match for us (or you) the caseworker wont be doing any matching. Our cw told us that our best bet would be to search the photolistings. I'm not sure if thats the way it is for everyone or if we just have a lousy CW.

Where in Florida are you located? Where are your classes? I really hope that it is a smoother process for you than it was for us.Dont worry about the MAPP class too much. I really belive they would be better off doing psycological screenings and drug tests rather than the MAPP class anyway. Could have just been the ones who did our class , but there really wasnt much to it. If you need any more info you can PM me if you like , I'd be glad to help any way I can.:coffee:

I am in Orange County.
Thanks for the reassurance on the MAPP classes, although I am not worried about them at all. What does worry me (and your post just kind of justified my worries!) is my own ability to 'choose' a child.
Just looking at the children in the CHS website I already find many matches. But I know nothing about them, only a picture and what the 2 sentence profile says...
That says nothing in terms of how well I can parent that child.
Anyways, I plan to at least send my homestudy (the day I have one) to each one of the CHS chapters. Some chapters seem to be more active than others. Mid Florida and whichever is the Jacksonville one, gave me that impression.
One more thing - the adoption liason I talked to told me they have events where you can meet the kids. Have you heard about that? I will keep you posted if by any chance my CHS chapter/caseworker provides more assistance that maybe you can use.
P.S. My orientation is tomorrow. I am soooo excited about it!!!

From what I understand the CW have alot more information on the children than is listed on the sites. If you find a child that you may be interested in your CW can find out more info and let you know if you may be a match.Yes , I have heard about the events , but they are few and far between. We havent been able to go to one yet though. There is another website that you should check out for florida if you havent already and it lets you choose the disability levels you are able to accept it's The Florida Department of Children and Families
and there are national websites too
Adoption.com - Information on International, Domestic, Child & Agency Adoptions, Stories, Laws -
Adoption Photolisting they let you choose the disability levels too.

Just a quick update. We are finally approved to adopt.!!! Yea!! We are still searching the listings and hoping to find our child. Our caseworker has already told us that it is pretty much up to us as she doesnt have time to search for a match for us. I thought before that once we were approved that it would go to a different worker (matching coordinator or something similar) but apparently that isnt the case. We will keep the same worker who did our homestudy from here on out. In some ways thats a relief , because we already know her , but it seems a bit much for the same person to be responsible for all of these areas. No wonder she doesnt have time. But on the other hand how many kids actually find homes like that?
cris73 - that's great you guys finally got approved, I know how long it has been for you.
Have you found any potential possibles on your own?

We thought we had , but it turns out that the little guy needs alot more than we are able to provide . Other than that no, and our CW isnt looking at all . She says that she doesnt have time , for us to keep looking. Oh well what can you do right? Just keeping searching photolistings.
Guess what ? I just got an email from a CW out in Texas on a sibling group that we inquired about. She wants our homestudy by Monday the 14 so we can be considered and be included in the matching they are having on the 24th!!!! I am trying not to get my hopes up , but it isnt working. LOL It's a sib group of 4 , all 3 and under!!! Are we nuts?A 3y/o 2y/o twins and under a year. 2 boys 2 girls. What do you think our chances are? Pretty slim right? Thats what I am thinking , but I cant help getting excited and getting my hopes up!! Keep your fingers crossed.
Wow that's great news! How long do you think the ISPC will take if you are approved?
Have you also checked all the heart galleries not just on Adoption Photolisting Sometimes they have kids on the heart gallery and not on that website.
You might have a pretty good chance, because honestly to take on 4 kids its hard to find a placement.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Keep me posted.

Well some disappointing news. Our caseworker is happy to send our homestudy on the kids however she says that we are only approved for two. So unless they decide to split them up , we wont be able to get them.I dont understand it . We have 2 extra bedrooms. What would be the problem? I dont know about interstate compact. At this point I dont think that they are even going to consider us.

If you need information on the ICPC then let me know. I have been thru it all to get our niece here from Idaho to Florida. I can help point you in the right direction if you ever get to the point of needing to do an ICPC. I can say though it takes quite some time for it to happen so you'll be waiting awhile. I also have contacts that we have dealt with here in Florida regarding the ICPC if you need.
I'm in NE Florida. You can also try Adoption Photolisting.
