Okay, my little guy is in daycare and just turned 2. I was recently informed that the toddler class was going to go on a field trip to a local discovery museum. At first I thought it was a good idea, but I am now wondering if it is. I won't be able to go with him, and he is at the stage where every noise spooks him, and every new situation causes him anxiety. Do you think I should let him get a little older before going on field trips (without me), or am I being overprotective?:paci:

I think you have 3 options:
1. Ask some questions about the child/daycare worker ratio on the trip, what their emergency procedures are, how they're going to travel, etc. and then if the answers satisfy you, let him go. If they have a good ratio of kids to workers and he is spooked, they'll be able to remove him w/ one teacher if that's necessary. I think kids often adjust a little better than we think they're going to.
2. Take him through yourself before the field trip so he can be familiar w/ the surroundings on this return visit.
3. Volunteer to be a chaperone that day so you can help and enjoy it w/him.

I really did want to go on this trip, but I have some major dental work, and a vacation scheduled next month, so can't afford to take extra time off of work. I will get more details about the staff/child ratio though -- good idea. I just brought him for a routine medical check-up, and they practically had to peel him off my body to do the physical. Anyway, I'll relay my concerns to the staff. Thanks.
