With November just around the corner, many of you might be looking for ideas on how to celebrate National Adoption Awareness Month. To help those of you needing ideas, check out the following link for some great suggestions!

Even if you have no personal relationship with foster care adoption, which is what the month focuses on, there are many ideas on here that help celebrate adoption in general. No matter what type of adoption you do, it's fun to celebrate with others involved and spread the word! Positive messages surrounding ALL of our kids...that's something to celebrate indeed!
If anyone has anything to share that would give others ideas, please feel free to post!

Hi Denice! I am trying to get up the courage to go and talk to ds's class about adoption. I don't know why the thought terrifies me! I've done it before when he was real little, my sil had me come into her class and talk to them. And I used to be a teacher! I guess because these are his peers and I am afraid I will mess up and make it hard on him.
AHHHH!!! Maybe I'll email his teacher and talk to her about it.
Ani,
I think that is a wonderful idea. The more we educate the better even if they are young. His teacher might have a few ideas for you and maybe talk to your son and see if he has anything he would like you to talk about? It will go great.
Ani, you will do a great job---you are always kind and articulate about adoption issues!
Here's what we're up to this month:
1. We're chairing our agency Walk for Adoption benefit on Sunday. I am pretty pleased because we have already exceeded last year's total on fundraising, which makes it easier for the agency to cover birthmother expenses.
2. We're going to be on TV on Friday w/ H to talk about the benefit and about our adoption story.
2. This month's issue of our local city magazine has H's first "print work"----an ad about the walk w/ a good picture of him (not so great of me, unfortunately)
3. This month, my dh has put together a Native American film festival at the non-profit independent theater organization he chairs. There was a great article (same magazine) about the festival and why he created it----H is Cherokee, so we wanted to connect him to that heritage. DH is so proud he is about to burst. And I am so proud of him!

HBV, um, hello? Can you stop making me look like a deadbeat! hahah! that is so awesome...I am so proud of you, DH and H!
Ani, I know you are prob nervous..but you would be GREAT! Does Ds want you to do it? If so, you should go for it!
OK, Loveajax, this will make you feel better---I am the deadbeat---forgot to mail your package!
wow HBV...you are doing a lot, that's great!
love, right now he says yes, but he said that last year too and then he changed his mind. So, we will see. I am working on an email to his teacher, just haven't finished it yet. I want to find information on the kid's level you know?
ETA: I just realized this isn't the Adoptive Mothers forum! LOL, oh well, I can still participate even if I'm not Catholic, right?

Ani, Denice---I sent the calendar link to our director and we'd love to reproduce it to hand out to the people that attend the walk on Sunday. I sent an e-mail to a.com to ask permission to reproduce it, but do either of you know, in your great moderator wisdom, if that is OK?
no prob, hbv...i forgot to mail the check too...life is nutty!
i kind of thought it was funny at first that there was a "christian" and a "catholic" board....i wonder why that is?
I don't know HB, I've asked crick so hopefully she'll find out for you soon!
love, I'd guess because not all Christians are Catholic.
But all Catholics are Christian....I think that's Love's point.
Thanks for checking w/ Crick for me!

As long as you give credit for where you got it (A.com) feel free to use the calendar. The more awareness and celebration, the better!!!
