Hi - glad to see some more Kansas ladies!
We still haven't signed on with an agency yet. It's driving me crazy, but we had some things get in the way. And now we are trying to save like crazy. Sometimes I think we'll never get started!
The agencies we're looking at are ABC Adoptions and Adoption & Beyond in the Overland Park area.
Hi there!
We are from Kansas too. We live near Wichita. My husband and I are in the research stage. We've sent out for info from domestic and international agencies so far but we are leaning towards domestic. Trying to get a feel for exactly how much money we need to save up for, and what kind of a time frame to expect.
If anyone has advice regarding finding an agency or attorney, feel free to send me a PM!

Hi there!
We just moved to Overland Park in November from Delaware (previously living in Wichita). We were working through an agency in DE that completes adoptions from foster care. We were chosen to be the family for a 13month girl, but then a paternal family member came out of the blue to adopt her. Anyway, we wanted to get started immediately in KS and it looks like we are on our way...
Would love to hear more about your experiences.
K
Hi there and welcome back to the area!
Have you been researching more local agencies or are you looking at more national ones? The agency we signed on with is in Overland Park. So far we've been really happy with them. Our home study was very quick once we got in all our info, and now we just wait. (I think I'm going to lose my mind.) They are a small agency though, so they encourage us to network on our own. I've been doing a few things, but no responses.
This is a great site to get info and ask questions. I've learned a lot!
We are using an agency in Andover (just outside of Wichita) which was recommended by a friend of a friend. They work with facilitators and we have officially been matched as of yesterday. We spoke with bmom over the weekend and really liked her, but we wanted to ask a lot of questions about the logistics and the budget since bmom in TX, facilitator in CA, and us in KS. Our questions were answered as well as they probably can be. There is still so much uncertainty as the baby is not due until early July. Lots of time to have a change of heart. I will just keep praying for a healthy baby to make it to our arms.We do need to have our home study updated. The agency in Andover will do this, but I have considered using one here. Who are you working with? Thanks for the warm welcome. I may have some ideas for you to network out of Wichita if you are interested.
Hi! We're James and Tiffany. Our website is James and Tiffany's Adoption Website and we've been home study approved since July 2008. We're still waiting on the one call that will work out... Wish us luck and prayers and we'll return the favor - Tiff

Hi,
Hopingforachild - I'm so excited for you on your match! Why does everything always seem to be so complicated though! July is a long time to wait. I would be going even more crazy than I am now.
I'll pm you with our agency name and web site. They have been great to work with so far. I emailed back and forth with them for quite a while with questions before we signed on. All their answers were very honest and straight forward. I really appreciated that.
I would love some ideas on networking! Our agency encourages it, and then they would simply switch us to the independent adoption program if we find our own match.
James & Tiffany - Your web site looks really good! Did you do it through an agency? I know nothing about creating a web site. We're listed on our agency's web site, but I have no idea how many people see it. I'll be sending luck and prayers your way!
Christine
Thanks! I like our website pretty well too. It was easy. If you can use word documents and upload a few pictures, you can do it. Webs.com - Free website, free hosting, free webpage - Make a web site with photo albums, blogs, videos, forums and more! gives you template options and it's easy and free. Best wishes - Tiffany
Thanks for the links! I never thought about creating a web site. Do you advertise the address on other sites, or word of mouth? Are there very many hits?
I'm always interested in what others are doing to get out there in adoption. I've mailed out about 25 - 30 flyers to clinics, etc., and made some cards to hand out. Nothing has come of it though. Granted I've read that others have sent out hundreds of flyers, so maybe I'm still too small scale.
We have mailed about 300 post cards and our web site is posted on some of our friends' blogs, my myspace and facebook pages as well as on linkedin.com and twitter.com which are all social networking sites. CafeMom.com is a new site I found and there's a pretty large adoption community on it as well. Best wishes - Tiffany
