Do you celebrate Halloween? If not, why? If so, what has been your best and your worst costume ever?

Personally, I'm not a fan of Halloween. However, my husband and I have discussed it and have decided that we will allow the boys to dress up and they do "trunk" or treat at church. (We all decorate our trunks and they go from vehicle to vehicle and get candy).
We decided that if we cut out all pagan Holidays, then there wouldn't be a Holiday left to celebrate, except maybe Easter, if we cut out all the commercialism with it.
I also decided if we cut out Halloween, we needed to cut out Christmas since the true origin of Christmas is as bad as Halloween.
What are your thoughts on Halloween?

We celebrate Halloween even though it certainly doesn't rate as a "holiday" to me. I love seeing the kids dress up but I am not a fan of trick or treating (must be from my childhood when my dad would run us non stop at top speed up and down the block - haha).
Anyway, my best costume would have to be Raggedy Ann when I was about 8 - my mom made it and it was so adorable. My worst would definately be my costume from last years party - I went as Mrs. Potts from Beauty and the Beast and the costume was so big and bulky that when I sat down the tea spout would pop up in front of me and I couldn't even eat dinner - I had to take it off. That's what I get for bargain shoping (75% off) the year before!

We celebrate Halloween - the kids get such a kick out of dressing up. Generally, we trick or treat at the mall. This year, our church's harvest festival is this Saturday night. Since DH is working on Halloween evening, the girls and I may just stay home and hand out candy to other trick-or-treaters. Not sure yet.
I haven't really dressed up for Halloween since I got too old for trick or treating, but I was Raggedy Ann one year at work. Pretty cute costume. I'm supposed to come up with something for this year, but I'm not sure what it'll be yet.

I love Halloween...just fun to me. I tend to look at some holidays without the history attached because it's not how or why we celebrate things in general. Meaning, I'm not having my kids dress up to guard against evil spirits but just because it's fun to do it. lol!
My best costume was a ghost in the 4th grade. Back then, face painting wasn't as prevalent as it is today and my mom's friend was an artist and painted my face all white with a black "smile" and eyes etc. It was just cool looking, even though the actual costume was just a sheet and a black felt hat on my head.
Worst one had to be going as a baby in junior high. Why I ever thought wearing a big diaper and having a huge bottle to tote around was a good idea, I don't know!

We let the kids dress up for Halloween. It's just for fun. I agree with what Crick said about not looking into the meaning, just having fun!
This year my DD is a Harem Princess and my DS is a Race Car Driver. We generally only trick or treat on our street.

We love Halloween! I love the weather at Halloween, I love the apple cider and spooky ghost stories we tell. I love watching my kids get excited running from house to house with anticipation of what type of "treat" they will receive next. My oldest has stopped trick or treating but he still dresses up to hand out candy to the other kids in the neighborhood. Halloween isn't about evil spirits to our family, it is about having fun and donating more money to the dentist for it:arrow::arrow:
As for best and worst costumes......The best was the year I dressed up as an Witch and the worst was the year I went as a Punk Rocker....the hair, oh my, the hair.....LOL

We celebrate Halloween mainly because everyone else does and it would just be too unfair to keep our children home. We don't decorate, except for a pumpkin the week of and don't really consider it a holiday, just a fun night to go get candy.

I LOVE Halloween. It's so much fun to decorate and dress up and hand out candy.
I really don't connect it to paganism. It was so far in the past and really has nothing to do with the holiday now. Unless you happen to be a Wiccan I suppose. But I don't know any of those.
Best Costume: Dorothy from Wizard of Oz. My friends were the Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and Scarecrow.
Worst: A thrown together witch.

I agree, nikki. Also, if we got rid of all things that were originally pagan, we'd have a lot of things to rename (months, days of the week, several Holidays, etc.).
I celebrate Christmas, but the lights I put up are not to scare off evil spirits and the gifts are not to please those spirits if they happen to make it in my house anyway. We do Halloween because it's fun for the kids and I do love passing out candy (and usually attach a scripture or a magnet with church info to each piece). I won't get to pass it out this year, because we will be at church.
