I see where legislature is lobbying to open adult adoptions records. I think that is great. People are stating that research has shown that bio parents are not effected by this information being given out mostly medical.
What are your thoughts?
Honestly, I can see both sides of this argument. If you placed a child for adoption under the condition that the records stay sealed, a unilateral change to that does seem unfair. On the other hand, I see the need that an adoptee would have to find birthparents---whether it's medical or emotional.
Both parties have legitimate interests, and I am not convinced that one set of interests outweighs the other. There's a saying in the legal world....bad facts make bad law. Sometimes there's no way to craft a public policy that's fair to everyone.
