The holidays are coming up and I know it can be especially painful to be away from your placed child during the holidays. So I wanted to check in with everyone now that the holidays are upon us and see how you all are doing? I'd also love to hear about any upcoming visits and what you plan on giving your placed child as a Christmas gift.
We have a visit planned with our son and his family December 15th and I'm really excited. We haven't seen each other since June, the summer is so busy for all of us. I have not started Christmas shopping yet and am not sure what to get T for Christmas. His older sister is easy - gift cards so she can buy what she wants. ;)

Thanksgivingmom- It cracks me up that you are going to steal a present for the babe! I love it. It's great that she is going to get the traditional baby gift, even if your grandma doesn't know it...
It's looking like I won't be able to make the trip to see my bdaughter and her family over the holidays this year. This will be the second time in 12 years that we haven't had a visit. The first time I was on the other side of the world and it would have been pretty impossible. This time, I could if I was willing to spend the money on a plane ticket, but I just built a house and am planning a wedding and feel like I shouldn't take the trip. I just saw them in October and I know I'll be seeing them in June. I haven't even thought about sending gifts yet...I should get on that.

I really don't know if I can go through with not having a visit...I am already thinking about maybe having a February visit...I don't know if I can wait until June.
As far as gifts go, I know I will get P at least one book. She is an avid reader and I love getting her books that I used to read. Last year for Christmas she asked for a book. I asked her what kind and she said "A big fat one." She'll read pretty much anything.
Other than that, I really don't have any fresh creative ideas. I'll figure something out, though...
TGM-you know, you are turning the baby into a criminal too! Possession of stolen property? Ha Ha!

I might be flying in to visit for two days for the Munchkin's birthday. I'll just be taking Parker with me as Josh will watch Nicholas on his two days off. (Josh works 24 on, 48 off at the fire department for those wondering.) Since it's such a short time (leaving at 6 am on one day coming home at 11 the next) we opted not to take the ENTIRE family as Nick sleeps poorly on visits for a few days and would never get an adjustment period and thus everyone would be miserable. We're working out some kinks right now. As well as me trying to move around some finances so that I can fund a brief trip out. Here's hoping!

I just found the greatest gift for my son. It's a book called "Larry Gets Lost in Seattle" each page has a few sentences toward the plot as well as a few explaining the landmark that the lost dog is near. I dont know if there are book out there like this for other cities but I think is a good gift for parents who don't live close to their child. I'm still working out what to get for my son's brother and will probably pick up something small for their parents during my black friday shopping.
