My heart goes out to all of you that have to go through such a horrible thing.
I am wondering if birthparents can contest after TPR. In the posts that I have read it does not clarify if TPR happened. What I was told is that once TPR happens then it is a done deal the birth parents lose all of their rights and other family members do not have any rights to the child. Was this a false statement? I am just looking for some clarification.
I will keep you all in my prayers!
It could be a false statement - it depends on the 'terms' that your state allows.
In some states, TPR happens and there is no period in which that TPR can be contested/revoked.
However, in some states, there are periods in which a parent can revoke their consent.
Contested adoptions also happen in cases where things weren't handeled legally/above board - or where a birth parent was coerced.
Of course, they can also happen for no 'legal' reason at all...it just depends.

I just want to second what Brandy says here. There are too many scenarios for one answer, and too many varying laws from state to state.
Also, there is a difference between a contested adoption and a revocation. Sometimes a TPR can be contested after a motion has been filed but prior to finalization; other times it can be revoked after finalization. Again, it depends on each individual state, and on the interpretation of the state laws by the judge.
_______________
In TN the birthparents have 10 days after TPR are signed to contest the adoption. If they contest during this time they have to go before the judge and there is a court case where as if they change their mind before TPR are signed they just get the baby back.
