What activities do you get your boys involved in during the winter months when you aren't able to get outside for those outdoor sports and activities? Both our boys are going to be starting Karate again in January. We tried to get big M into boy scouts but they had a hard time finding a leader so it fell apart. Big M came home with a sign up for a chess club and he is really interested in it.

Big J would love a chess club! That boy is a whiz at chess. However, his school doesn't have one and has no interest in starting one. :(Big J is in cub scouts. Little J tags along whereever we go. We still have warm days left here, so playing outside is still an option for us. Big J will start soccer again soon (when it is finally cold...crazy!).

We tried to get AJ into karate last year, but he was the youngest in his class and VERY intimidated (he had just turned 5 and all the rest were 10-12).
Anyway, both my boys go to school 1/2 days, which leaves lots of free time - we got a membership to a local community center that has a killer pool and indoor water/play structure for the kiddies (plus a work out room for me and DH)!!!
H is in a music class year round, same w/ story time. He's also in tumbling all year, and I am getting ready to sign him up for a "Kid Rock" class (wild dancing, and loud noise), a "Little Explorer" class, a "Little Scientist" class and an arts & crafts class for January--March. He just finished a "cooking" class---they're 2 year olds, they made things out of jello or something. Our parks department has a lot of good preschool classes.
:hissy: :hissy: We don't have ANYTHING like that. One of the downsides to living in a very rural area. (15 miles to the nearest store...and that is a little mom and pop place. We drive 35 miles to shop for groceries.) The upside is that just walking in our front yard is a Nature Hike. :) We watch deer, turkeys, and other wildlife from any of our windows. Once we watched a bear come up to the plum tree by the side yard. But I'd love to have the opportunity to have the kids in a class or two.
They all sound wonderful! HBV....really a cooking class? That is so cool!! Awww Barksum....create something in your own home that has a structure from excercise on a video to making something on a regular basis (baking different cookies). lovemy2boys how awsome to get to go swimming no matter the time of year. Yes Karate was tough for our youngest....he had just turned 3 and had issues with following instructions but still does today....lol Bajj what are they doing in scouts? I so wanted big M to join? That is neat that little J can participate!

You know, the cooking class sounds awesome! Both my boys love to help in the kitchen - my oldest says he wants to be a "cook" when he's older. Or Darth Vader...
Anyway, for Christmas, I bought them a Kids Cookbook, and I thought we'd make a new recipe a couple times a week. They can pick out what to make, we can go to the store, buy the stuff and cook it - the recipes all seem pretty easy - I just love the idea of them learning about measurements and such, even at 4 and 6 years old!
