Well, I thought it was a one night thing, but I was wrong. We're at a loss. Josh is 10 mo., came home at 4. I don't let him cry it out for more than about 15 minutes because he panics. He goes down for bed and naps fine (awake). But lately he's been waking at 3 am and not being able to put himself back to sleep. He doesn't want a bottle, he just wants to rock with one of us. He will calm down and cuddle and rock, but will NOT got back to sleep! Seriously, he's (and therefore one of us) been up for 2-3 hours the last few early mornings before being able to go back to sleep decently. When we try to lay him down, he'll just keep screaming off and on.
We can't keep doing this and we are at a loss as to what to do or what's going on with him. It's horrible. What's worse is I'm the get up at night person since DH works long days and I play with the baby all day. But he's had to get up to help just because I couldn't handle it and I was afraid I was going to just loose my temper. With a baby! After my shift this morning, it took him over and hour to get the baby back asleep.
What in the world is going on? We are clueless, tired, and frustrated!

Hey, it's been awhile since your original post, but I thought i'd reply anyways as sleep is SO important. We had issues at 8m (getting rid of soother) and 17m to 26m (went to bed good but up 2h later and would only settle in Mom & Dad's bed).
I finally found a book/program that I used and it worked well for me. It's called Sleep Sence. Don't worry i'm not affiliated or anything, just a sleepless parent at one point.
We just adopted our 3rd, and infant and it's nice to refer back to 'remind' me what we should be doing.
Good luck!

So sorry I never saw this post. DD did this EXACT thing at around 11 months and it was awful. She would nap and be a perfect angel during the day and at night we'd get maybe three hours of sleep before the hysterical screaming would start. Suddenly the baby who had been sleeping through the night since three months and putting herself back to sleep since four months was gone. It was awful.I posted asking for help, I called doctors, I talked to every family member I could find. What I heard was that almost everyone had gone through the same thing at around the same time. And that it would go away eventually. One veeeeery long month later it did. One night she slept through and after that it's been smooth sailing. We still have no idea what it was all about. It didn't appear to be related to a growth spurt, teeth, etc. And contrary to what one very pushy nurse said, she apparently does remember how to put herself back to sleep because she's doing it again just fine.Hopefully Josh has worked through it by now.
Teeth at all? Hitting new milestones?I think all babies go through this once or twice. Also, I know you said no problems napping but is he sleeping enough during the day and is his bedtime early enough? Those two things can contribute to a lack of sleep which creates an overtired baby that cannot or will not be able to put himself to sleep.Best of luck. These are not the fun times of parenting. My heart goes out to your tired self right now!
My daughter did this at 11-13 mos and again later around 2 years. A daycare child just finished going through it.
Its totally a developmental thing, not sure if its teeth, brain development/dream etc., or what but it does eventually stop.
If possible nap evey time they nap. Yes I know there are diashes/laundry/vacuuming/dusting etc to get done. However, you have to survive this sleep deprivation. Remember those flight attendants and put your oxygen mask on first, if you are rested as much as possible then everything looks rosier and you can approach the middle of the night cries with humor and love.

P.S. I swear it gets better soon.
