I have a friend (no really) that is wanting to adopt. She has a cousin through her husband who is in Arizona on a work visa from South America. She is pregnant and wanting to let my friend and her husband adopt the baby. She went in for a visit today becuase she felt something was wrong and they told her the baby has heart problems (only 3 chambers) and for her to just abort. Well she's catholic and that's not an option to her. THe problem is she only has "emergency health insurance" and becuase the baby is not born yet it doesn't qualify. Does anyone ahve any suggestions on how to get mom and baby the help they need. Once again she is here legally (ohh yeah and bio father is a US citizen if that helps)
Since my friend is the intended adoptive mom, will her health insurance cover this though the baby is not born?

I don't think any insurance will cover the baby until it is born---the care is still considered prenatal. After it's born, many insurance policies cover the baby from placement. So if the baby is placed immediately upon delivery, the hospital costs for the baby (delivery and nursery care) are often covered by the aparents insurance. Mom's costs are separate. Would she be eligible for Medicaid?
