My adoption took place in Georgia. I see that you need a court order to get your orignial birth certificate. Has anyone petitioned the courts for their original birth records/certificate and succeeded? I know some items were changed from my original birth certificate to my adopted one and I want to know the REAL information. Any help is appreciated!
Have you tried the Georgia Adoption Reunion Registry Georgia Adoption Reunion Registry. They can't give you your original b.c., but they can do a search for your birthparents. It costs $300.00, and they can't guarantee your birthparents will want contact, but they can let them know you are looking for them. Hope this helps,
Deb

I have registered with the registry to receive non-identifying information, which wasn't much might I add. I don't necessarily want contact and I especially do not want to spend $300 for someone to tell me there can be no contact, if that happens to be the case. I was just wondering if there was any way to get information that was on my orginal birth certificate. I don't really need birthparent names or contact.
Unfortunately, I don't know much about that. I asked about it once and was told that before they would unseal the records they needed to do the confidential intermediary search. I know it is wrong and that you should have access to your own b.c., but that is how I understand GA adoption law. I studied it a lot when I was searching for my son -- though I am far from an expert. As a matter of fact, if you want someone who can really answer your questions you have to hire a lawyer which really sucks. I wish I could help you more. Good luck, Deb
