Hi. I'm new to the site and am so happy I've found a support group. We are trying to adopt in Orange county, Fl. We have completed our MAPP classes in Dec. and did our fingerprints. So, I call the agency today and ask what the timeline is for a homestudy? They said, "Oh, your fingerprints were rejected from the system due to our machine's malfuction. We meant to call you." I was sooooo disgusted. We've been waiting and waiting for someone to call and set-up our homestudy. To top things off, someone just called from the agency to tell me that they don't even have any of our paperwork in their department!!! What??? I guess the person that conducted our MAPP class failed to send our paperwork to the correct department, or any department for that matter. I've called them and am still waiting for a response! Anyone else have issues like this?
I'm sorry to hear that you have been getting the run around but welcome to the system! It's a non-stop paper chase.
About the fingerprints that is real common. My results took almost 2 months to get back. Then an additional 3 months for the FBI clearance. From the 1st day of class to actual date of licence approval, was exactly 6 months.
It's possible that the paperwork is just sitting on another cw desk.
HANG IN THERE!! This is just the beginning.

I think this is part of the training=) They want to teach you that you HAVE to stay on top of things or nothing gets done. You'll find you have to make calls and paper trails on your end just to prove it's not you that is slacking on things.
I have heard that is very common with the fingerprints.
Hang in there! It will all come together soon. Just keep making those calls to check in on things.
Best of luck!
I'm glad to hear its just not me. I'm still mad, though. I just don't know why it has to be so difficult...I guess I just need to be patient. I mean there are so many kids that need a home, but it takes so long to place them.
If theres one thing that you will learn through this process it is definately patience. We had similar problems with the fingerprints as well as paperwork.Try not to get discouraged though. You should expect it to take 6-8 months from the time you started until you are approved. If you havent started your homestudy yet the fingerprints shouldnt hold up the process . You still have plenty of time to get them done. With ours they waited until the homestudy was done to tell me I had to redo my fingerprints. Then we had to wait on that before our homesyudy could be submitted for approval. Even after you are approved you are still in for a wait so try to be patient and find things to keep you busy. Hard I know , I still struggle with that and we were finally approved in Dec. You should know though that when you are approved ,it is your responsibility to find the child / children , if you are waiting for your CW to match you with a child you will be waiting a very long time.
Ahhh patience - the lesson we all must learn as foster parents...
I sit here giggling because I too have been there on the paper chase in Florida. I also had to call the placement office to find my first child and again to find my next child when FD #1 was sent home unexpectedly. Oh and then there was the sibling group I had to beg 3 different departments to let me keep together through the holidays - and here I though keeping sibs together was a priority. Somedays I wonder why I'm not receiving a paycheck from them, since I seem to be doing all the work.
Speaking of the paper chase, when all is said and done and you have foster children in your home DOCUMENT EVERYTHING!! You will probably be the only one keeping track of all the details. And keep a copy for your files, just in case.
Patience.

Wow. I called the placement office today...and have called each week for the last month. Every time, I am told that a different person has been assigned as our case worker. We are on the 3rd one and I have yet spoken to the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Each time I call I am told that so-and-so was to call you today...and still nothing. I'm kind of wondering if I should go through a different agency. I'm tired of getting no answers. The only problem I have with switching agencies is that 100+ papers I had to fill out. I really don't want to fill all that stuff out again. I should have kept copies, but I didn't Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!:thanks:
