We had to take our 16mth old FS to the Er last night.
We rec'd him in Dec. as a "week only" placement. He was going to relatives out of state over Christmas vacation. I should have known when all his belongings were still at our house, that we would have him back=)
The entire week we had him - he had diarrhea.
We rec'd him back in Jan - he still had diarrhea and his bottom was SO bad - to the point that it was starting to bleed.
I took him to the Dr's and we discussed perhaps he was lactose intolerant. We took him off of dairy for 2 weeks. It seemed to help. But every now and then (twice a week) he would still have diarrhea. But he also attends daycare--and even though I handed them a dr note telling them of the no dairy---on his take home paper it would be written "snack - yogurt", etc.
I would bring this up with the daycare and they would assure me that he didn't have the yogurt - they just write out the menu for the day (then how do I know what he really ate??)
So, anyway---the last 2 weeks our entire family has been ill. I don't know what is going on. I thought the flu at first--or a stomach virus. But we're still sick.
Everyone has diarrhea (except DH)---there has been vomiting. My 9yo DD threw up 2 weeks ago...then would have no vomiting for a week - but have a fever--or no appetite, etc...then a week later throw up again?! She first threw up Feb.17 and just threw up again today.
With 5 kids it's so hard to get rid of this and not keep passing it around.
Our 6 mth old is coughing---went to the dr's 2 weeks ago. They put her in amoxicillan for 2 weeks. Now she sounds worse. She is going to the dr's tomorrow.
So, our 16mth had diarrhea Friday and Saturday. Saturday his body (from knees up to neck) was covered in what I considered hives. Even his cheeks were red.
Then he threw up. Then his eyes started pouring out yellow gunk and swelling up.
I was worried perhaps he was having an allergic reaction to something.
So, off to the ER we went last night. After 4 hours---I come out of there with a prescription for diaper rash creme!!!!!!
He wouldn't listen to the history. I even tried telling him that my 9yo's dr. just tested her stools for parasites and salmonella but we won't get the results till Mon.
But the dr's was rushed and just said all the symptoms were from a virus.
I'm wondering if FS came with something back in Dec?! I just don't know....but I can't get my family better!!!!
Tomorrow I am going to make a follow up appt for 16mth old...and an appt for 6mth old (who also now has diarrhea).
I've done Lysol, bleach, gloves while changing diapers--bought Germx, Dial complete....I just want us better.
This is mainly a vent=0 Frustrating when you have so many kids in the house. They all get sick (I was sick 2 weeks ago..in the Er myself because I had chest pains..which they told me my chest walls were inflammed due to probably having the flu...and after the trip to the ER..I started diarrhea and have had it for 8 days now)...they are missing school......it's all so very frustrating!!!!
And there are 3 dr's involved. I'm hoping that I can get them all on the same page tomorrow!
Thanks for listening!!

Good luck. Whatever has been going around here - sure sticks with a person!! I'm on 3rd course of antibiotics since before Christmas and can't get rid of whatever it is that I've got. It's horrible to have a whole family sick. I hope you find what is causing the problem and that it is something that can be fixed - not something that has to be lived thru!

Update---
6mth FD has bronchitis--put her on the nebulizer. Had to go back to dr's in 2 days.
16mth FS--did an eye culture. Going to do a stool sample. Had an ear infection (why didn't ER catch that?)--on amoxicillan.
9yo--the one stool sample came back negative. Waiting for the O&P one still. She missed another day of school because her stomach was hurting. Since she threw up yesterday, I let her home..was hoping for results and meds for her. Looks like we might still be searching for answers for her.
I called both CW's and let them know about foster children. Hoping they both get better soon.
