I have just begun to actively pursue adopting an AA or BR infant, after doing quite a bit of research, reading, etc. I had given up, years ago, on the possibility, believing that the costs were prohibitive. I am a single mom, living in Hawai'i and don't have a ton of $$ (understatement!). I DO, however, have the time and love to give to children. I have a bio biracial son (11) and I am a general licensed foster parent in the process of adopting siblings who are 12 and 6. They are also bi -actually, "quadracial" When I discovered the enormous amount of AA and BR infants that are available -so much so that there are a number of special grants, etc. out there (seemingly?) to help I became interested again and very excited at the prospect of possibly adding a baby to our family.
My questions are: has anyone had experience with an agency that they can recommend? I understand that this info must be PM'd to me, but would really appreciate any info. I am leaning towards Lifetime adoptions, so am VERY interested if anyone has had any dealings with them. Also; has anyone succesfully applied for and received any grants to help offset costs? I am thinking, at this point, that I will wait for DHS to make the recommendation of adoption for my two foster kiddos, so that the state will pay for my homestudy, which, I believe, can then be converted to a homestudy for private adoption. Geez! It really seems that being a licensed foster parent should give you a leg up! After all, I have experience with a wide variety of kids; ages, ethnicities, difficulties, I have proven I am in it for the long haul with several long term placements... not to mention that I have had a home study done, have been finger printed, FBI background checked, etc. Agencies here in Hawai'i charge around $2000 for a home study and if you are a foster parent they use your DHS home study as a base and charge the full amount for doing just a little of the work! :hissy:
OK, sorry, it is late and I went off on a little tangent there  Anywaaay! I would truly appreciate any advice, info, help, etc.! :thanks: :cheer: :thanks: :cheer:
I too would love any information that you get...I am looking for answers to those same questions...and also if anyone has any experience with Lifetime. Please PM me as well.
