I just called and talked to someone at an agency on our "short list." To be honest, I didn't really feel like the guy wanted to talk to me. I was nervous because I don't know anything about what I'm doing and he didn't seem very eager to "teach" me...does that make sense?
I guess I will cross this agency off my list because I don't want to feel like I am imposing on someone everytime I have to call and ask a question or clarify something.
Anyone else have this kind of experience? If you call and don't like the feel of someone, do you give them another chance or not? :thanks:

lol...you know what. it also goes the other way. sometimes you call an agency and they seem AMAZING....you sign with them and they are so-so, or your friends sign with them, and tell you every nightmare you could imagine. i think the best thing to do is go off referrals. have you sought feedback on the agencies on your short list? while i'd say be concerned since he sounded like you were buggin' and he didn't even have your money, i'd like to say that you will also be AMAZED at how quickly a seemingly good agency's tune changes the moment your check clears. :)

I totally decided on which agency I was going to use based on a gut feeling from one conversation. I don't recommend that - but everything turned out great for me - I was very happy with my experience. If you have a gut negative feeling - cross that bad boy off the list. There are several agencies to choose from these days - in spite of the latest slow down.
we ended up going with Nightlight! I talked to Kate and loved her. She spent time with me on the phone, didn't seem rushed, wanted me to understand all the things I asked about. I emailed her the next day and she responded within hours. I emailed her again today about home study agencies and she responded with two agencies within 2 hours of my email.
Thanks everyone!
I had good conversations with 3 agencies before I made my decision. At the time, they were only three working in Kyrg. (that has since changed)
It was tough to decide b/c I had good exchanges via email and phone with all of them. Then one of them never replied to an emial I wrote. I took them off the list. One other thing I did was talk to several folks that used the agency I was leaning toward. That helped me make my final decision.
Folks that are home with their kids will generally be open an honest with you around their experience. Get some names and numbers and talk to these people before you decide.
Good luck!!
