I was going to post this in Tara's thread, but hated to hijack.
She wondered what Natural/First/Birth Mother's feelings were on Mother's Day or Birthmother's day.
I am not a firstmom of placed/adopted child, but wanted to add that early on~we just asked our son's Mother her preference of Birthmother's Day or Mother's Day or
BOTH lol and she likes Mother's Day. So if APs and adopted people could ask you, would you be able to express it to them without feeling uncomfy?
I was asked as well, both my my placed daughter's parents and by my Husband. I said Mother's Day.
I was not uncomfortable in expressing my preferences.

:cheer: I like to hear that!! I know our son's Mom does not even like the birthmom word, although she has never been online to learn the reason's some Mom's find it distasteful. I had asked her once if she liked it and she shuddered! I didn't ask why-none.my.beeswax. unless she offers an explanation. My own Mother has no idea there is such a word or such a "day"- Does anyone know if any calanders list it and how prevelent are the "BirthMother's Day" cards ect.. at the stores?
Ps. LOVE the B.Feeding record!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have seen one card at Hallmark last year, which was for mother's day for a birthmother, but not for birthmother's day.
You can buy Birthmother's Day cards online though.

I am surprised that Hallmark has not picked this up more because it could be a money maker I guess. (or any card company).

Hard for me to answer as I know I will never be asked.

I wish your child's other Mother would acknowledge, recognize, appreciate and encourage you to be the Mother you
really are ~ by joining in your child's life as a welcomed Mom.

Thanks Lonni :thanks:
I think last year was so new for both of us, and we weren't in direct communication yet so I made a lot of excuses....I sent her a card that was finally aknowledged months later.
This year, where we have email addy's and phone numbers, and it would be easy for her to send an ecard at the least - or even just write in an email....I wonder if she will....if that even registers in her mind as something she might do....
I suppose I don't want to get my hopes up again....
IF she asked me, I would like to be brave enough to say Mother's Day without encroaching on "her" day...

If I felt I was able to express my preference for being acknowledged, I would say Mother's Day. As great as our relationship is I am not acknowledged at all on any "holiday".
