I did not have my child escorted but the quote from my agency for that service was what it would have cost me to travel (hotel & roundtrip airfare) plus $2,000.00. I would be paying for the escort's airfare and hotel in Almaty, and the $2000 would pay for the escort's time and hotel in the US..
I originally planned on having my child escorted but changed my mind because: 1) I wasn't comfortable with the escorts used (one was a 20 year old girl and the last child she escorted ended up at the hospital suffering from dehydration hours after arriving in US); 2) the extra expense; and 3) my IA doc suggested it would be better to go throught that trip together-- to kickstart bonding..
That having been said I have spoken to a number of other parents who did have their child escorted and were very happy with the process

We are considering the escort home option. Our agency said that it will likely be a translator that we've worked with and know, so that is nice.
I've talked to a few people in my state who have used the escort home, one for a 3 year old, and the other for a 13 month old. They were very happy. In fact, the woman said that her 3 year old adjusted very well, because the translator was there to talk her thru it.
Good luck!!
Mom to one, on the way to 2!
