I just got the packet for my homestudy in the mail! I'm so excited to start this part of the process, but nervous at the same time. Which is actually very funny considering I'm a SW also. I know it's normal to be nervous about it and in the end it will be worth it when I finally get my referral from Bulgaria. How you all deal with your homestudy?

W just started our pride training (Parenting Resources Information Development Education) and our homestudy. We meet with our social worker on monday and we are just as excited. We are adopting from Bulgaria as well, and even thoughw e are at the beginning stages it just feels so right! Hey if you are a SW you should be fine you already knowwhat to expect. :) I will let you know how things go after monday. What age are you looking at?

I think being a SW helps, but at the same time I know way too much which also makes me nervous. I am hoping for a child under 2. But it would be great if the country did decide to lower the ae to 6 months. What age are you looking at? I just need to remind myself take one step at a time. Good luck with your visit!

socialkat,I hear you i teach psych and soc and i know way more than i should which makes the process so much more difficult. We are hoping for a child under 2 as well, and apparently they did lower the age to 6 months i just read it on another thread (and so did you as i just saw :)). Our visit went amazingly well. the agency was very helpful and had a great deal of info as well as pcitures and videos of orphanages. I need to constantly remind myself to take it one step at a time, as i am more of a leaps and bounds kinda girl. :)
kat.Yes these forums are great as they provide you with specific support that you may otherwise not get. I love hearing about international adoption but i would like to hear moreso about Bulgarian. I will take whatever i can get :) but dh wants a girl. Actually his whole family wants a girl as there are 3 boys. When i came a long i dont think they knew what to do with me. :) How about you? Have you started the home study yet? Did you meet with a SW? We did our interpol clearance and will finish our pride training in 2 weeks so i am ready to get the ball rolling. Where abouts are you?

I live in Iowa and basically have to drive to get anywhere :) I am still working on all the wonderful paper work for the homestudy. This is my last full week of work before school gets out (I'm on a school schedule which is really nice, but I still do some work over the summer). Needless to say this has been catch up week and making sure all loose ends are tied before summer break starts. I'm hoping to finish up all the paperwork the beginning of next week and send it in.

kat,WOW! You will be done all of the paperwork for your homestudy in a week?? Geez it is much slower here in Canada. It takes at least a week to get your interpol clearance. Plusthey visit 2-3 times, and you have to write an autobiography and get references. How was your weekend? We have our meeting with the SW today. I will let you know how it goes!
It will propbably take 4-6 weeks for the SW to complete the homestudy. We get approval form the USCIS after the homestudy is completed. So many hoops to jump thorugh! I found out today that I will get finger printed 2 times (once for the homestudy and once for the USCIS). I'm just trying to get as much paper work done now, before life gets too busy.

I have enjoyed reading through the Bulgaria site to learn as much as possible about Bulgaria and the children there. We are actually in the process of adopting from Ukraine but are switching programs. Could you guys out there please tellme what agencies you are working with and if you have already gone through an adoption in Bulgaria that would be very helpful. We have one agency in mind but they dont seem very knowledgable about Bulgaria in general. Thank you. I guess you can either email me or PM me. :thanks:
