My Joshie is balking at his bottles...he will start drinking with gusto then stops after a couple ounces. He only gets 24 oz. of formula in a 24 hour period anyway and eats solids 2-3 times/day. Oh and he also takes a juice bottle about 6 oz. total a day (diluted with water...half juice, half water). He shows no interest at all in a sippy cup but will drink a bit out of a regular little cup minus the sippy top.
His weight is fine, he has 2-3 big poops a day, and several wet diapers too. His urine appears to be light yellow so I know he isn't dehydrated. Oh, and he is almost 11 months old.
Any suggestions?
Blessings, Michelle
I think it is ok if he isn't interested in the sippy cup. They all will do what they want. Have you tried several types of sippy cups? Sometimes it just takes a few different ones to find the right one.
Kelcee was off formula completely at 12 months. She used a sippy cup all day and at night used the bottle to fall asleep.

DD hates the sippy cup, and only wants to drink out of a regular cup. We encourage it but at this point if we just let her have a cup we'd have to change her every time she took a drink.
We thought she was going to need surgery so we held off cutting back on the bottles until recently.
I think Denice is right, they're all going to get there in their own way.
Have you tried the sippy that doesn't have handles? That's the one DD hates the least.
Also, she's basically off formula except for her bedtime bottle and she doesn't miss it at all. Our ped told us no juice and limited water so she mostly gets whole milk.
That seems like a lot of formula for an 11 month old to me but I know opinions vary on that issue. My pediatrician recommends cutting down a little on formula by that age and then switching to no more than 12 oz whole milk at a year. My DS turned a year old last Sunday and he was on 16 to 18 oz formula per day for the last month or so (and solids 5x per day). Dairy is still important but the formula/milk can be supplemented with cheese and yogurt if he'll tolerate it. I thought my DS didn't like sippy cups at first either. And maybe that was part of it. So I tried a number of different kinds. It turns out though that he really just wasn't that into juice. He loves drinking just water out of a sippy. I find that so odd but there it is. I guess I'll just enjoy it while I can. :)
