I'm new; Advice please?

I'm new to all of this. I'm only 16, but I'm really starting to think more and more about my birth mother. All I know is that I have to be 18 to see my records, and so far, from what I've read, its hard to get these records. Can anyone give me some advice on what I need to start searching & how to get these records? I am very, very nervous & scared to even dare to ask my adoptive parents. Only my stepsister & a few close friends know about this.
