I was born in St. Mary's hospital in Saint Louis MO - 5/2/1973. First name was David. My adoptive parents gave me many conflicting stories all my life regarding my parents. I'm not sure what my real name was except my first name was David. My adoptive mom says that my full name was David Carl John and it was changed to David Benjamin [followed by adoptive last name].
My dad who passed away recently always maintained that I was jewish and that my parents were professors - one was a musician. (I'm a musician too. my parents aren't musical nor were they very supportive and it became my life's passion. it would be validating to find that there was music in my bio-family.
My adoptive mom's story is that I'm not Jewish, and that the dad was a heroine addict and the mom was institutionalized for schizophrenia. The only part of that story that makes sense is that St Mary's is supposedly for high risk mothers.
I'm 35 now and really want to know where I came from and who I am. My adoptive parents adopted me to save their marriage when I was 2 and it didn't work- they were divorced by the time I was 3. I was always juggled between them, but never really developed close relationship with either of them. I've always felt pretty lost. My adoptive mom has a lot of feelings of obligation toward me but she admittedly doesn't understand me or feel like she knows who I am.
I don't want to go through the state and have them contact the birth mother bceause i'm afraid the contact will be so cold and clinical that she will shut down and not want to give any information. I'm wondering if I should use another resource or search angel to help find them and write a letter with some personal communication/pictures and such.
From your post you actually have very little to go on. I would suggest that you contact the court that handled the adoption and request a copy of the non ID info. At least you will know your heritage and other info.

yeah i learned yesterday that this would be my next step. maybe once i have the non-id information it'll have clues leading to more?
Hello, I am a firstmom, whom resides in Mo. I am in search of my twin sons,born1986, and placed at the time, in tucson az., where I resided. I do not know if Mo. has C.I.'S , but about 3 weeks ago I hired one to find my sone. She of couse lives in Az., but assures me she will find them. If Mo. has C.I.'S( confidential intermediaries), I would highly suggest this route. They are relatively inexpensive(mine has costed me so far $33. Her fee is not over $350.00, and she says she rarely uses past 50-100.00 I hope this is helpful, I believe the office in Jefferson City can probably tell you what you need to know. GOD'S BLESSINGS' in guiding you through your journey....:cheer:
Since you have your original name you could order a birth index for your date of birth. Also you can register with the State of Missouri Reunion Registry. If your birth mother is registered they will contact the both of you.

Actually, an organization called ALMA matched my son and I. I had registered with them back in 1989 when everything was done by mail. The 1990's were very busy for me and I didn't give the search much thought. Then in 2004 I received a call from ALMA saying they might have a possible match for me. ALMA was going through old files and surfing the now Internet sites and found who we believe was my son, as he had posted. He was fortunate in that he had his birth name and for some reason even his original last name. Long story short this all happened in 36 hours. My son and I did register with the state for the final say that indeed he was my birth son.
You might try registering with ALMA they have one of the largest registries in the US. Their registry is not online but is handled by several people.
I still live in St. Louis and if you get any leads I will gladly help you.
You can contact the court that heard the adoption and petition for a copy of the original birth certification.
interesting!
Do you know if it is hard to get the court to release the original birth certificate - or how you should formulate the request? from everything i've been reading about "sealed" information in missouri itit sounds too easy to be true!
I helped a lady this past spring she also did not know to contact the court that heard the adoption. She did so and requested not only her non ID info but a copy of the original BC. It took about 6 weeks but she did receive it.
wow. that's pretty exciting! I sent off for my non-identifying info today... however.. an original birth cert. would be awesome. are you a search angel? are you offering advise on obtaining this?

never mind i think i misread your post. i thought you said she didn't know how to contact the court.
Anyway I should have specified birth cert. in the request for non ident. I broke down a list in addition to the form which asked for very specific stuff... I sent that off today. Do you think it would look weird to immediately follow that up with an additional "oh i forgot give me the birth certificate too?"
