My husband and I finally made the decision that we wanted to adopt. We have talked about it for years, but finally we are ready. We have researched online til our eyes are spinning, and have a stack of books we are making our way through.
We have decided to do straight adoption through foster care. We have no other children, and really think we would like a group of 2-3 kids, but would be ecstatic with just one, as well. We are signed up for an informational class this Saturday, and apparently this is where you get your application, once you've finished the class.
I am 32, my husband is 39, and my 20 year old sister lives with us to save money while in college. We know that the fact she lives here will be a factor in their consideration of our home. Any thoughts on if this will be viewed as a negative for us?
Thanks!

Your sister will probably need to be at the very minimum finger printed. She may even have to take all/part of the training. I know in Indiana (we are foster to adopt) any one over the age of 14 has to be fingerprinted. I don't think they will look negatively on her being there but she will probably be expected to do "something" (background check, fingerprinting...ect).
Congrats on the decision to adopt!

In Texas anyone over the age of 14 has to have a background check. It should not be a problem with her living there. When they do the home study they will look at the bedrooms you have available for the children and they go by the square footage. Each child here has to have 40 sq. ft. We have 10X11 rooms so we could only have two kids per room. Hope this helps.
