I think that most of us have a myriad of reasons we support a candidate, but if there was ONE single issue in this election that pulled you toward a candidate what would it be? For me, it is taxes. Based on that, one may think I'm an Obama supporter, but I'm not. We are small business owners. On paper, we make more than $250,000 a year. We draw a reasonable salary, but most of our income goes to overhead such as rent and employees. They will tax us on our net which means our taxes will go up. I truly believe that Obama was wrong in the town hall meeting when he said that only a "small fracion" of small business owners make over $250,000 a year. On paper, I would assume most of them make more than that or they are too small to employee others. When our taxes go up, we will have to make a choice. We will either raise our prices (every econimic class uses our product) or we will have to lay off one or more employees. Since we put MOST of our money back into our business, we can't afford to absorb an increase in tax, we will have to pass it on. I promise you that most small businesses will do the same thing. So while many of you may see a tax break, some of it will be spent on higher prices for goods and services. I truly believe that many people who draw a pay check will lose their jobs. My huband and I have already discussed which employee(s) will have to be let go if the government takes a bigger portion than they already do. No matter how this elections turns out, it has been good for everyone that so many people are finally interested enough in politics to pay attention. If all of us paid this much attention 24/7, those in power may have to watch how they behave a little bit more and that would be good for everyone.

I am voting McCain not only because his view on abortion being the same as mine but a myriad of reasons. I'll just list a few:
OBAMA: REV. WRIGHT: Went to this guys church for over 20 years: Rev. Wright (GOD **** America in sermons, "the chickens have come home to roost, the white people are responsible for the blacks getting HIV, etc. etc. etc.).....shameless. (If my preacher gave sermons like this, he'd be tossed right off the pulpit into the street). Obama is friends with Bill Ayes (the terrorist who bombed the capital, etc. who still is non-repentent of any of his acts of terrorism.) Close friends with Khalidi: During documented speeches and public events, Khalidi has called Israel an "apartheid system in creation" and a destructive "racist" state. He has multiple times expressed support for Palestinian terror, calling suicide bombings response to "Israeli aggression." I can go on and on with Obama's terrorists connections, but you get my point.
OBAMA: Will lower defense spending? Why is anyone for this? We've been attacked before and it will happen again. With the enemies of the world wanting to attack us, why would he lower our defense spending???? (I don't agree with everything President Bush did, but he has kept America safe since 9/11.)
MC CAIN: 23 YEARS OF MILITARY EXPERIENCE. I'd say that qualifies him as keeping America safe.
OBAMA: ZERO experience...but wants to talk to the enemy (without any stipulations).
OBAMA: Spread the wealth around....oh really. My husband and I have worked very hard all our lives. We will work for what we get. I don't want any handouts from the government or anybody else. Why should I get somebody elses money? Whatever anyone makes, let them keep their hard earned money. They worked for it, not me.
CONTRIBUTIONS: Where did Obama gets all his millions from. He won't disclose his sources.
OBAMA: The only quality he has is he is a smooth talker.
So many of you are shooting down McCain, I just felt I had to set the record straight. John McCain is a decent, honorable, American Hero. He has fought for our country for 23 years by serving in the military. He has 22 years as a U.S. Senator whose proven record shows he has worked across the isle. He will fight for America. He is the kind of leader I want.
GO MC CAIN! :hissy: :hissy::cheer: :cheer:

Many of my closest friends, who've never before donated to a campaign, have donated to Obama. And so have I. I've heard people question where he got the money to attend Harvard, insinuating it came from the likes of Ayers. I haven't, though, heard anyone ask where McCain got procurred his educational funds. Interesting.

Well...I donated about $150.
Your quote: " I'd be careful about this indictment by who you have been hanging around with. You have been on this forum with me, a liberal, inner city, pro-choice, sometimes believer in socialism, left-winger. Someone may start to question who you are..."
I could care less if you question or others question who I am. I'll gladLY tell you. I am a white, middle aged, born again Christian conservative woman who does not believe in abortion. Nor do I believe in bigger government or government handouts or Socialism. My husband and I work very hard to pay for our small home and to keep food on the table. We are not rich by any means and by the way, some of my closest friends are BLACK so don't even go there by calling me racial. I'm not. I could care less if our president is pooka dot. I am voting for an American president who has proven himself time and time again to work with both Republicans and Democrats, who has experience in keeping America safe and has the same values as me. I don't want a radical leftist so I am voting for McCain. In fact, I am phonebanking for him in a couple of hours. GO MC CAIN!

Let's not forget McCain's 23 years of military experience (which is vital in keeping America safe).
Obama - a big flat zero experience.
I'm for experience in keeping America safe.
P.S. If Obama's contributions were legal, all the millions and millions and millions he received....then why doesn't he let the records be shown?
Too many doubts about this character.

See...I just don't think a war hero equals great president. What that equals to me is a man who has served his country in ways that most of us will never know. That is hugely important but for a lot of us, it's not a sign of being able to run the country.
The thing I don't get is being against bigger government EXCEPT when you want to have the government step in and decide what a woman can do with her body - or who a person can legally marry.
Sure, small government sounds great just so long as it can be used to take away peoples rights when necessary.

I would also point out that being a war hero doesn't mean you make a good president. Ike wasn't too bad - didn't do anything fabulous or bad. Ulysses Grant was hugely corrupt. McKinley was a slacker (Sarah Vowel does a funny piece on him) but was assasinated so you don't get a full look at him.
McCain graduated fifth from the bottom in his class from the Navel Academy, which says a lot.
It is odd to me that that people argue that being tortured and kept in solitary confinement not only didn't cause mental scars but prepared someone for the Presidency.
I see it as one small increment on a man's character, how he did indeed act during that time. Not nes that it makes him a good anything in and of itself...just that character point.
Can we take a new spin on all of this. Maybe say what does make a good president by what already has indeed be proven. Meaning not what they say but what they've done.
What makes either worthy of your vote by what they have indeed done, speifics (not our or their hopes or plan to's) but the real deal kind of points they have proven themselves with. Not what the other guy hasn't done...what's your guy done.
Somewhere new to go in this pretty fantastic exchange :)
EDITED: I started a new thread for this take on things. Take a look if you'd like to join.
