Hi, I'm new to this forum thing, but I had to get some support somewhere. My husband and I adopted a baby girl in 2005 successfully. We recently attempted to adopt again through the same attorney we went through for our daughter. We were matched with a birthmother. After 5 months, we found out that she was never pregnant, and now she's nowhere to be found. We have made a police report, but there's not much they can do until they find her, which who knows how long that will be. My husband and I are thinking that maybe we shouldn't adopt again, and count our blessing with our daughter. This is what our minds say, but I don't know if my heart agrees, but I'm scared. Any advice out there?

I agree with the others.
It breaks my heart when women do this - it's wrong on so many levels, and I agree that there needs to be action taken so that this does NOT happen anymore.
Also, I just wanted to point out (and I'm sorry, I don't mean to hurt) that this woman is not a birthmother - as she was never pregnant nor placed. What she did was WRONG and horrible, but to say that she was a birthmother that faked a pregnancy puts birthmothers in a negative light.
There's no doubt that this woman was a scammer - and it hurts all of us when someone does this.
I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. ((((hugs))))
Thanks to everyone for their supportive words. We have definately made a police report, and there is a warrent out for her arrest. Unfortunately, she hasn't been seen in months. But I have faith that the law will eventually catch up with her.
As far as the title of this thread, I certainly didn't mean to put birthmothers in a bad light. I thought by putting the words fake birthmother together first, that would convey that this woman was impersonating someone who is genuinly doing something for the good of her child. So my appologies if that was conveyed otherwise. We were lucky enough to have adopted our daughter a few years ago, and her birthmother is the best! She is such an inspiration for me, and we love her dearly.
Thanks again for all your support and kind words. It's nice to be able to go somewhere that people can understand:)
