We are fostering special needs/medically fragile child (9yrs)
we want to adopt her. However we are wondering if we can afford her and all of her medical needs, like therapy, nurses, etc. What happens if the state cuts funds or SSi, or medicaid for her. We just can not afford her, but we really love her and want her permanently.
Anyone adopted medically fragile child and have had no problems financially? Or what problems have you had?
Thx Sylvia
I was under the impression that you could negotiate benefits for her before the adoption is finalized.
Also, if your husband ( or you) has health insurance at work, you can add her to your policy and be covered like a bio child would be.
Our income didn't allow us any cash benefits from SSI, but we would have qualified for Medicaid for our DD. We decided that we didn't want to go that route since DH has good insurance. But you should visit with your SS office about qualifying her for medicaid through them.

Negotiating right now with the economy being the way it is has not been good. Also DFCS in GA seems not to understand medically fragile children and their needs. So far we can only get a small subsidy for her and medicaid for her. We are both retired and concerned our income will not be sufficient for her and us. Thx for your info.
