This is our first post here. We are a couple married 36 years. We own a home in a nice area. We had one baby who passed away 18 hours after birth due to a needed C-Section done too late. We were told we could have two more, which proved to be untrue. Later after a radical hysterectomy was needed we tried adoption, went through home study and got licensed as a foster home. But we were limited to a very few choices and we found the system to be frustrating and not very helpful.. We decided instead to try surrogacy. The agency we went with turned out to be a scam and we lost a lot of time and money, and got only a lot of grief. Now we are older, a lot older, and lookng to adopt an older teen, or aged out of foster care. We do not want to go through home study again. We understand there are a lot of teens who need a safe secure permanent home and an opportunity to continue school and get started in life. We have checked with agencies and sites online but so far have not been successful.

Hi---come join us over on the foster care boards, we've got a ton of info that might help you!Long story short: there are literally thousands of teens in the foster care system who need homes. But you will have to go through the home study process again. It is free (the good news) but still a hassle (the bad news). But it's to make sure that you're a safe place for kids to be, so all to the good.I hope you can manage to make it through the bureaucracy, and provide a safe haven for a teen. Boy, do they need you!

We find it difficult to understand the need for a home study when taking in and adopting a teen aged out of foster care. They would be 18. According to a lawyer I checked with at 18 they are legally an adult and a home study isn't legally required to adopt. At 18 a person can choose to marry, go in the military, buy and sell property, live where and with whom they choose, and it is the age consent of about everywhere. Isn't it true that the a prime reason there are not enough adoptive homes is that would be adoptive families do not want to deal with a home study?
