Hey everybody!!
Well...the other day I had an eye-opening conversation with my youngest daughter.
I was using her computer to post here on the forum and she came in the room and sat down on the bed and asked if she could speak with me.
I said "sure sweetie" and turned to talk. Then her eyes sort of flicker from the computer screem to me and she says, "Mom I don't want you to be mad at me but I wanted to talk about your kids."
I'm all like "ooookkaaaayy" inside my own brain wondering what's coming. Again, another bright and happy smile painted on my face and another "Sure, sweetie".
So she says, "Mom,don't hate me but I don't want to be you! I don't want to make your mistakes!!" Then she crosses her arms and stares at me.
!!!!
Here's me. "Uhmmmmm...."
After that I sat there for a second blinking. Meanwhile inside my head? My mother's voice saying in her cynical, sarcastic way, "Oh that's okay dear! Don't worry! You'll make plenty of your own mistakes!!"
Oooo boy!
All I ended up saying was that I understand and that I wouldn't want her to make my mistakes either and that that's why I'm so adamant that she talk to me about boys and relationships and the choices and situations that all of that can lead to.
Her response? "Ewww! That's gross mom! I don't want to talk about this anymore!"

Sigh...maaaayyyybeee I should've gone with the "you'll make your own mistakes" line. LOL!
lol, your daughter sounds like mine. I want to be open and talk to her about things and I get the ewww....gross...

Oh boy Janey. How old is your daughter? I know that it will come up in my home soon....not looking forward to it, but it's so important.
I think you handled it well!
I'm planning on being senile for those conversations!
And Janey, I think it's good you got the 'eww gross' that means she heard you! and she'll think about it.
My boss always says to mention puss and scabs in those conversations. Do you think that will work? I have an 11 year old and 5 year old boy.

Hey guys!
Don't know what happened I thought I had replied to this thread but I guess my post didn't take. LOL!
Anyhoo... Stinky_Kitty and all - my daughter is 12 going on 20 and knows more than I could ever know (if you know what I mean). LOL!!
I am hoping though that, like Quantum said, she's listening even if she doesn't want to admit it.
You know, I've been wondering what brought her conversation with me on. Then last night we were watching CSI Miami reruns and, I swear, ever other commercial was either for Cialis or Viagra. I mean every other one!!!!
LOL! Even I found myself saying "Ewww" "Gross".
Hugs to you guys!
Well when she gets a couple years older you can send her out here for some aupair experiance ;-) I'll tell her about my 'mistakes' as well!
