My wife & I finalized our first adoption of our daughter from Vietnam almost two years ago. We never could have fathomed the joy that becoming parents would bring.
We've been discussing a second adoption for a while, and finally came to a decision to adopt from Bulgaria. I'm going to try to have our application in transit to our agency tomorrow.
We've indicated we're open to a child 3 or under, being open to a variety of special needs. We're also open to a sibling group, but wouldn't expect two children younger than our daughter to become available (and it is important to us to have our DD remain the oldest child).
The journey begins again, and we are so excited.

Congrats! If you are open to siblings or specialneeds it will go by quickly for you. We were just registered and are waiting and praying. Best wishes,

Thanks. I forgot how difficult it was to select which special needs we were open to. It's tough to put aside emotion and think rationally about our ability to care for and support children with certain special needs.
Congratulations! Bulgaria is a wonderful country. Blessings on your journey!
Thank you, and thanks for the information. You were a great help!

We are in the process of getting our application ready for adopting from Bulgaria, too. Best wishes to you!
We are in the process of adopting from Bulgaria (our home study is next week), and our agency told us that you could not adopt a child younger than 3 from Bulgaria. We are okay with that since we already have a 4-year old (biological) daughter, but after reading some of the posts in this forum it sounds as though some are able to request younger children. I'm curious what other families adopting from Bulgaria have been told....?
We were registered in March of this year and requested a child (either boy or girl) under 2 years old. I believe the MOJ in Bulgaria is prioritizing older children (close to 7). Our agency was okay with a child under 2 on our home study, but prepared us that the wait may be longer.

To answer your question, from the information provided by my agency... Siblings, children with special needs and those near or over the age of 7 are being prioritized by the MOJ. The MOJ is lowly trudging their way through the dossiers submitted from 2004 onward... having said that there were something like 2300 submitted which has been whittled down to approximately 820 or so (due to families choosing other countries for adoption or changing their minds all together) often it is not learned until the MOJ sends a referral to the family and the family responds. It also appears there are very few submitted from 2005-2007... I can't predict how long, being that they have redefined the process. That has been a topic of conversation on the yahoo boards... the wait for healthy under two is hard to predict... I believe the MOJ is not far off their first referrals to the US for healthy children requests.
If anyone has heard anything about referrals please let us know... and if you have contradicting information please let us know!
Thanks,
Yvonne
Hi - We are in the process of adopting from Bulgaria. We are in the midst of the home study process right now. We have been told that the MOJ has passed a new law starting in June that will allow children as young as 6 months of age be referred. Prior to this it has been 12 months. Again though, the younger the child the longer the wait.
Congrats to everyone starting or already in the process.
Does anyone have any information for Singles out there wanting to adopt from Bulgaria. I understood from one agency that the wait time was much the same as couples, but that the average age was 3. Any info would be great.
