I was born in Washington, D.C. in 1959. I have tried to find out information about my birth parents, but have found nothing. The records are sealed and I am running into a brick wall. I am wondering if anyone else has found away to find out information about their birth parents from Washington, D.C. The only thing I have is hearsay info my mother was of Italian descent and nothing about my father. From genetic testing, I have found Native American ancestry on my father's side. Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks

Thanks Austin0i. The information I have came from a genetic screening and basically what came back is that I am a member of the M3 haplogroup which arose between 15000 to 10000 years ago in America. Most North American Native and almost all South American Native males are descended from the originator of this haplogroup. I would believe I would need more testing and documentation before I could stake a claim as being a Native American.
Thanks for the tip. I will do some more investigation from the genetic angle to see what turns up.
Do you know if you adoption was through an agency or private or through the county? You do have a right to obtain your non-identifying information from your file. It could provide clues to help you search. Are your adoptive parents willing to help or can you remember any details you were told? The non-id will be requested through where your file is held. There is a search forum with search angels that could help you more .
good luck!
Thanks ckcmom. My adoptive father is dead and my mom has not been much help. I do not want to push the issue with her. See is not overly sensitive about the issue, but made it clear to me that reason they adopted in Washington, DC was because the records would be sealed.I did have a private search done with OmniTrace and they ran into a brick wall and told me they could not find any information. I asked them to search for my birth mother, so that may have been the problem. At this point I would settle for non-id information. I know that some birth parents do not want to be contacted and I do not want to cause them any problems, but I am curious about my heritage and family history. I love my adoptive family and am accepted by them, but I still am curious about my biological roots.
It has been some time since I last posted. I had more genetic research done and found my mother may not be Italian, but was more likely Northern European and perhaps Irish. The mt DNA indicates a haplotype usually found in people from Germany, Northern France, Belgium, the UK and even parts of Sweden. So far, I have matches with 3 people from County Cork, Ireland, two in Germany.I am not sure what this means, but it may give me a little bit more insight into where my birth mother and her family came from.On my father's side, there seems to be some similarities in my DNA with men who trace their male ancestors to Native American tribes from the East coast, particularly Eastern Virginia and New York. Not much there to go on.If anyone reading this has any ideas of where to go from here, I would appreciate hearing them.Thanks.
