I am was matched with a child in my state about a month ago and now I am wondering if I am ever going to bring him home. I am new to this site and hoping someone can tell me how long does it take get the child home. I haven't even been able to meet my son! He is only a few hours from me and I am still waiting to go meet him. No one can tell me how many times you visit and what comes next. Does anyone have any advice or stories for me, please? I am in Michigan. Thank you in advance.

Being matched is only one step of many in this process. From there you receive additional information on the child, speak with important people in his/her life (teacher, foster parent, counselor, etc.) and make a determination if you want to proceed with placement - from there, all requirements are verified (training, up to date medicals, etc.) and then a transition plan is designed for the child/your family and visits begin - this can vary from several days to weeks to months - each situation is different. If you have not heard any more, I would have your worker contact his agency and determine stage of placement and verify they aren't waiting for more from your end.
Congrats and keep posting -

My adoption was private so I don't know the steps for state......but I just wanted to say congrats and offer a word of encouragement. I hope you get to meet your son really soon and he will be lucky to have a mother who wants him desperately. Just think the little guy is about to start a new chapter. How about you call the case worker and see if you can at least get a recent pic? something anything? I bet you the caseworker will totally understand.:grouphug:
