Just wondering if anyone in LA county is having any luck with adopting? Seems like these judges and workers are ALL about ONLY RU
Yes, currently just finished TPR in Jan (Son placed Oct 2012). Bio Mom abandoned (did meet her at TPR hearing, which was the first she attended ever and that was because she was in jail). Not sure when paperwork should arrive

we are currently trying to adopt, we have a now 5 month old little boy, birth dad not envolved and Bio mom has disappeared twice now, grandma from bio dad's side had one of her other babies but unfortunately cannot take another, its sad but at the same time we are so in love with this little guy we are hoping to adopt him. Good luck!
We've been waiting since 2011 to adopt. It's been our experience that the kids that don't reunify are not a fit and the one or two we've been interested in didn't work out. Tons of kids in LA COUNTY seem to reunify. Good luck on your journey.
I was certified the day after Christmas. And my third call about a fourth child was the winner. The nearly two-month-old boy came home on January 31st. He's considered a fost/adopt placement, unofficially.
He had visits with paternal dad and grandma, but dad is back in jail. And sadly, it looks like grandma, who loves him tons, won't be able to get him back. Maternal family has been ixnayed since everyone is convinced they are in cahoots with mom, who is on the run.
Paternal grandma still has visits and probably will continue to do so, until family reunification is terminated or until TPR. Unless of course, she can find a relative willing to take the baby.
The Entire State of California Foster to Adoption System is Built On Reunification under the age of 10 years old!!
Good luck on your journey.

My signature shows our timeline - placement (newborn) until adoption was 19 months, from April, 2010 to November, 2011.
Our first fost/adopt journey in 2008 we were only open to low legal risk or already TPR'd children, and that did not work out for us (long story).
When we came back to fost/adopt in 2010, our FFA adoption worker encouraged us to initially foster, and our first placement was our daughter.

Has anyone used or had any luck adopting through the California connection site?
Haven't adopted through the site but every inquiry we've made which has only been 2 were answered right away. There is a 3rd party that runs California Kids Connection and they get back right away with the CSW's info (sent to your agency).
We are currently waiting on.an appeal to see if TPR will be scheduled in the next 4mo. We have had our two for close to a yr and recently added their newborn sibling. Because of our age range as well as our desire to only take in sibling sets, we may just luck up and be able to adopt our current placements. Its still not a done deal but we are very close to a goal change.
Being able to adopt out of LA County is determined by many factors. Your SW, lawyers, BioParents, age of children, family ability to take in children, etc. I have heard many children who should be adopted returned back to Bio or relatives while other children are "fast tracked".

Ahh.. ok. I did get a response quickly to have my home study sent. However i havent heard anything else since then (will be a month next week). Was just wondering what to expect for response time is for La County workers. Should we just move on or wait another month or two?

It really depends on the workers. Some respond quickly and some take a LONG time to get back to you. We were potentially matched in January from an adoption event and it took 2 months to finally have a predisclosure meeting at which time we had to decline because of the case details. Sometimes my agency will contact workers from the waiting children's list and sometimes they get a fast response and other times delayed or no responses. LA County is understaffed and overloaded so it's really hit and miss. If you're with an agency you really have to have someone aggressive going to bat for you with LA COUNTY. you can also contact the PRU unit for additional help.
Below is our timeline. We finalized last October. Bio dad was not at all in the picture and bio mom disappeared. This was bio mom's second child to be placed and adopted. Yes, RU is the focus but a lot of kids don't RU and, after a long and frustrating journey, are adopted out to fost/adopt parents. Hang in there and be strong.
