Hello,
This forum is really helpful and I am hoping someone can offer me advice and answer some questions.
My husband and I decided to adopt internationally and have been researching and learning as much as possible. After much deliberation we have narrowed our country choices to Colombia, the Philippines, or Thailand. Our first choice is Colombia, but we are really concerned at the long wait time before referral.
We would like to adopt either 1 child between 2- 5 or two siblings between 0-5. (We have a daughter who will be 6 in November and we want her to remain the oldest.) I know that adopting 3+ siblings usually gets a quick referral, but I'm not sure if 2 siblings would result in a slower or quicker referral than a single child.
Also, I would love to get a recommendation for an agency. If you have any agency information, please pm me. I have looked at a bunch of agency websites, but it is so difficult to choose!
Thanks so much to anyone who can give us advice!
Pamela
Hi!!!
We are in the process to adopt, we are waiting for approval form the Colombian goverment!! So welcome to this roller coaster!
These blog that our user sumerced puts together, includes the waiting list:

For two siblings, you can look at this: (according to the list on June 18th)
2 Siblings 0 - 4 years --- Mar-2007
2 Siblings 0 - 5 years --- Jul-2006
2 Siblings 0 - 6 years --- Aug-2007
2 Siblings 0 - 7 years --- Sep-2008
For example, the parents that apply to adopt 2 siblings from 0-5 years old in July 2006 got a referral recently. Maybe there are other parents that entered the waiting list in July that haven't receive a referral yet.

You might be able to go up to 0-6 and still request that your other child remain the oldest since it may take a couple of years by the time you get your paperwork done, approved and a referral. I think you'll be better able to make that determination when you get closer to turning in your paperwork.
I just want to let you know that my daugther came home last year from Colombia and she is wonderful. She came home at 18 months old and is just a smart, beautiful little bundle of energy. We waited about 4 years but let me tell you it was worth the wait. It is difficult during the waiting process but I look back and I can't believe that four years came and went so fast. Good luck with your decision and if you have any other questions, I would be happy to help.
