Hey Everyone
Our Neighbors are considering adopting from Bulgaria or Ethiopa and the husband who is in late forties was charged with "disturbing the peace" (playing the stereo loud) misdeamoner charge 20 years ago (he was 27)he has not been in any trouble since-can he still adopt internationally?
has anyone else been in this situation?
Would they fair better with the Ethiopian program?
Thanks to Everyone!!!!!
That should not be a problem for Bulgaria. They are not nearly as strict as some of other European countries. If you want a contact at my agency who could answer your question officially, let me know and I will send you a PM.

I have a misdemeanor from my college years and had my dossier accepted and registered by the Bulgarian MOJ in March of this year. I did include a letter with my home study explaining the misdemeanor - since it did not show up on my background or fingerprint check (not sure why it did not show up).
I also had a misdemeanor charge from 20+ years ago - that didn't show up on my backbround or fingerprint check - and my dossier was registered by the MOJ. I was told the MOJ is not overly concerned with minor one-time offenses that occured many years ago.
Not sure of system in the States but in the Uk alot of misdemeanors have "time spent", usually about 10 years. So they will not show up. You could check with the police the period of time for your misdemeanor before it is spent.
