one more reason why adoptees should be entitled to their original birth certificates.
at the very least it is a very good argument for making sure you get and keep every ounce of documentation you can get your hands on that proves you are a citizen! yikes!
this was a great...although scary article.... and so i stole this article for the Guatemala forum. we could all use a little reminder to get all the documents for our children who were not born in the US!

MommytoEli,
This is going to happen more and more. I think it is Brandy? who cannot obtain a passport due to changes made to her birth certificate at the time of the adoption that removed something vital to obtaining a passport like the hospital or something and she was born in the US? They want her to get a dna test with her parents to prove she is their child...which of course would prove she is not their child...
If I had an adopted child I would ensure she/he had a passport and ensure it was always renewed before expiry and would not even trust that to be an effective safeguard with the new laws and attitudes.
Kind regards,
Dickons
it is brandy...and i hear what you are saying...so far 4/5 of my kids have a US passport i will INDEED keep renewed even if we aren't going anywhere. #5 needs his birth certificate before i can get his. it is so scary what can happen when a little information is off or hard to come by!
