how do you know if your records are sealed?
my adoptive mom does not know how to tell.

It depends on the state you were adopted from. Off the top of my head only Kanas and Alaska have never sealed records and only a few other states have opened their records once the child is 18/21 and do not have a veto in place by the birth family. Order a long form birth certificate. If you are in a sealed state you will not get it. If you do receive a birth certificate and it has your parents names on it, your state is sealed.
