It depends on the state you were adopted from. Off the top of my head only Kanas and Alaska have never sealed records and only a few other states have opened their records once the child is 18/21 and do not have a veto in place by the birth family.
Order a long form birth certificate. If you are in a sealed state you will not get it. If you do receive a birth certificate and it has your parents names on it, your state is sealed.
