My husband and I have decided to adopt our first child. We`are signed up for the MAPP courses but they don't start for another 2 weeks. I was just wondering what should I expect from the homestudy, and really the overall process. Our home is small we live in the Florida Keys the houses here are all kind of on the small side. Its an older home we recently renovated the room where the child will be staying. During the homestudy what exactly does the case worker want to see in your home?
Also Ive been looking through some waiting children on the photolisting and we have picked out a couple that we were interested in. However, I was wondering are there more children waiting who are not listed under the photolisting?
I am just a bit nervous and excited I can't wait to be a parent.

I am in the same boat as you. I found these great links about the home study:

From my understanding, they want more info about you than your home. All they care about the home is that it's safe, the child has his/her own bed, and you are able to provide for them. My CW said we don't have to baby-proof everything, but of course guns need to be locked up and out of reach, as well as RX's.
Also, the photolistings are very inaccurate. Many of the kids are placed, or they are no longer accepting home studies, and there are TONS of children not listed on the photolisting. My CW said that they first offer the children to their foster family for adoption, and in the event they are not interested in adopting, they will try and match with other foster families looking to adopt.
Hope that helps and good luck!

Hi there. Good luck in your process!
I'm going through my second home study now (long, long story). I teach and spent the entire summer redooing the house and trying to make it perfect. Then the sw came, and barely even looked at it. :)
THis time, I was much more relaxed. Don't stress. They won't a home that looks like a home, not a castle. I'm not sorry that I did all the work I did, cause now I love my house, but I wouldn't have been so stressed about it if I had known.
They want to see that you have a room for the child, that you have a plan for safety, and that nothing is going to crash around your family. Make sure it's relatively organized and clean. You'll be fine.
GOOD LUCK!:cheer:
