Hello, I have been lurking for quite sometime, actually on and off for years. I have 4 children. I found out about foster/adopt about 2 yrs ago and have been thinking/praying/exploring since. My husband is NOT on board with me. I keep praying, but he is still saying NO. I pray for the waiting children all the time and I volunteer to help the foster kids every chance I get, but alot of times it doesn't seem to be filling the void I have. I know I want to adopt an older child some day when God finally changes my husband's heart. Right now, there are a couple of boys I'd love to adopt. Their ages are 5 and 7 and I think that'd be perfect because it would go like this:
bio 16 yr old boy
bio 11 yr old girl
ad. 7 yr old boy
ad. 5 yr old boy
bio 4 yr old girl
bio 1 yr old girl
3 boys, 3 girls and there would not be any competition with the adopted boys since the only other boy is 16. The adopted boys would have 2 older siblings and 2 younger.
I want God's timing and I obviously can't go forward without my husband, but I do beleive we will adopt eventually. I just turned 40, there aren't too many chances for anymore bio children.
I'd have to adopt out of birth order unless I wait until my 1 yr old is older and considering I want to adopt an older child, that will be quite some time.
sorry for the long post.
Hi- thanks for your post- this area is focused on Adoptees, Adopted Persons- there is a place in Faith-Based for Adoptive Parents matters/posts. But as an adoptee and a Christian, I would say you definately need your husbands blessings to add to your family. Parenting is a team effort and parents need to be united in their decisions. There are so many aspects to consider, emotionally, spiritually, financially in your situation, and for your other children. I would suggest you continue praying and surrender it to God. He will open your husband's heart if its His will for you to adopt. And God sees the bigger picture and knows what is best for your family and for those children you love. Trust Him.
Blessings, Jody
