I thought it might be fun to have a thread where we can post one thing that made us smile today....
I'll start off with my barn cats. I live in the Sierra mountains of Northern California...all of us have barn cats out here in the sticks. They keep the rodent population down, which in turn keeps the rattlesnakes away.
Anyway, one of our newest additions to our semi-feral colony is a beautiful little tortoise-shell kitty. We've named her Annie after Annie Sullivan. She's got this attitude like you wouldn't believe! She's very small in comparison to the rest of her litter...she was a runt, and their mama died when they were about six weeks old. (We think a mountain lion got her.)
Anyway, little Miss Annie...well she made me crack up today. She's gotten into the habit of walking inside our backdoor when we go to feed them. She has such a cocky attitude...and she's so tiny...but she doesn't take crap from anybody!
Miss Anne walks right in my back door, jumps into my lap, stares at the computer, and then gives me this look that says, "where's my food, lady?" Well, of course I jump up out of my chair and run into the kitchen...Miss Annie follows me. I open a new can of food, and she lets me pet her while she eats. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to get a semi-feral kitten to let you pet her?
Miss Annie made me smile today....

Oh Raven, I have had a couple of cats like that. You have made me smile today remembering Oliver Fritz who showed up at my door one day with a bad back leg that was about half the length it should have been. He was about 6 months old, orange short haired and personality plus. I literally opened the door and there he was sitting on the porch looking at me with eyes that said 'I want to live with you'...needless to say he did, my vet said the leg had been broken and not set and spent 4-5 hours in surgery fixing his leg stretching out the ligaments and breaking and resetting the bone and pretty much charged me his costs only. Oliver was 'the king of the neighborhood'. He did his morning walk and would stop and get his head scratched, treats given by just about everyone on the block. He had such a happy personality that would not stop, he and my dog would play like they were siblings. Oliver was one of my favorites. Thanks Raven,Dickons

Since it wasnt a school day today there were kids everywhere at the state capitol҅Darn itԔ I thought to myself when I pulled in to find full parking lots and buses everywhere, This is NOT going to be a good day.Ӕ Sure enough, when I got to the cafeteria where all the lobbyists hang out, there wasnt a table or chair to be had. Families had even camped out in on the couches of the lobbyists lounge. With a grumble I grabbed a cup of coffee, stepped outside in the wind and rain to trek across campus to a less known hang out.
Just then a wind gust came up and my umbrella went inside out so violently that it tore. ғOh PERFECT! I said in a disgusted voice. I felt a tug on my jacket. I looked down and a little girl no more than 4 looked up at me and said, ԓwaidy, I sorry bout your brella. You can use my pink brella and I can get under my Daddyђs! Here I was being a scrooge and this darling little girl was handing over her little pink princess umbrella.
She was so sincere that I actually ԓborrowed it from her to dash across to another building for a minute or two and then I returned it to her and treated her to a hot cocoa. It made my day and reminded me that the state capitol belongs to everybody and that going there isnԒt just an everyday occurrence to most.

...and nice to read about Paige's precious moment...wish I had a picture of you and the pink umbrella, Paige...Yesterday, Hubby had the day off from work, and we actually had a sit-down lunch in our front room....looking out on the Straits and absorbing the spectacular view of water and mountains....it just felt so calm and serene....what a beautiful day!Susan
Got a new one for you:
Came home and checked my e-mail to find 3 [count 'em, THREE] e-mails from my daughter. Of course, I'd prefer it if she didn't stockpile them, but what a gift! I greedily opened and read them. I vow to try and wait until tomorrow to write. And then the waiting game begins again. But for now...
 :D  :D

I am lucky to have him in my life. He usually signs his emails "Love, DS", so it was a pleasant surprise the other day when he wrote "With All My Love, DS". Sometimes, though, he just signs it with his name...I think it depends on his mood at the moment. Also, today is his late bdad's birthday, so I think DS has probably been thinking about us a lot this past week.
The funny thing is that he didn't open his email with a salutation like he usually does. Depending on his mood, he'll either write "Dear Raven" or "Dear Mom". This one had neither, which made me smile...because I knew he was unsure of which one to use...kind of like me when it comes to signing "Love, Raven" or "Love, Mom". I take my cues from him and sign off with whatever he's been addressing me as lately.
