Hi, we have our homestudy in a couple of days. I just spent 1+ hours in Walmart trying to find a lockbox for medicines. I looked in the gun, fishing, safes, storage containers, etc and still did not find one that would take a lock. What did you all use for a lockbox? Where did you find it??? I need a small plastic one for fridge & a medium sized one for medicine in cabinet.
Please Help!!
Thanks!
I bought several small plastic/tool tackle boxes at Wal-Mart. You may be looking at some that do take a combo or key lock, and are missing it because that what happened to me. You have to look carefully, but you will see on edge where it closes, there is a hole for lock. The ones I have are clear with blue or green coloring. Each person in the house has one for their meds, thermometer, etc. Then I bought the locks that you can set your own combo, and I gave them all the same combination, so I feel I can remember. They cost $6.99 or $7.99 each.

We use a cash box that you can find at Walmart, Target, or The Container Store. For meds not in the fridge, we use a medium size tool box and a plastic file box that we put a lock on. All seem to work great! Good luck!!!

This is what we use in the fridge for DH's injectibles and attached a combination lock. We turned our coat closet into the cleaning supplies/medicine closet. We built shelves in there. Cleaning supplies down low, meds up high.
I like the idea of a keypad for the closet instead of a key. That would safe a lot of hassle. Maybe we'll change ours.

We have all of our medicines in the linen closet outside of our bathroom with a child lock on the door. We are currently licensed for children under 5 and right now have 2 under the age of 2, so we know they cannot open the door. We do keep some things in the medicine cabinet in our upstairs bathroom, but only things that are already childproof. Our kids don't have access to the upstairs unless we are with them, and all of their toys are downstairs, so they only times they are upstairs is for baths, naps and bedtime.

When I looked specifically for lock boxes I couldn't find anything but the firesafe boxes that were like $30.00 each. Instead I bought a toolbox with a hole for a lock for $6, and a lock and key for about $3.00. Could have gone cheaper, but was in a hurry. It works great & easily met the requirements.

If you have an Ikea store near you - they have a lockable medicine cabinet (cheap): IKEA | Cabinets, shelves & sink cabinets | Cabinets | ÄTRAN | Lockable cabinet
Works great for us.
There are several listed on Google. One is available from Amazon. Lowes also has some. Hope you find what you need. I am also looking just as a concerned grandparent. Glad I found some too.

We had to lock everything and double lock the meds. Locking bank bags work great for meds that have to be accessed daily. Get them at your bank. They also work great for traveling with meds. We got one for each of us, so our meds don't get mixed up. Now that M's adoption is final, we don't have to lock everything up anymore, but we still use the bank bags for convenience.
We use a small tool box for stuff that needs to be refrigerated and I use a small tool box that I put in a file cabinet both worked great.
And cheap. Can find them at 99 cent stores or dollar trees

We are also using a small makeup case in the fridge and we put one of those magnetic Tot Locks on a cabinet. They are a pain to install, but work really well. You have a 'wand' to open the cabinet.
Can I ask what state you are in? We invested in these and were told that it wasn't' sufficient for meds. We h ad to have something with a "real key"

I had a closet in my bathroom so I lock it up there. Also I like a key because I take older kids and they will watch me do the code when I dont think they are looking....
Wow! We put a set of latches on our bathroom closet door that require you to turn both pieces at the same time and one of them is above my head and that was more than sufficient for our walkthrough. No one has ever said anything about a lock box for the fridge. Then again, one of those plastic door knob cups was sufficient to "lock up" our cleaning supply cabinet.
I feel like things are a bit more lax here!
