I have been the legal guardian of my cousin for almost three years. The birth mother died this year and the father has never been named and confirmed. We were ordered home investigations by the court two years ago when the birth mother contested the custody. Do I still need a home investigation to adopt and do I also need an attorney or can I merely petition Orphans court for adoption as I already paid an attorney 2 1/2 years ago and was not represented by him at all? If anyone can help me with these answers I would greatly appreciate it.
You need to confirm with a lawyer, but I was the permanent legal guardian of my grandson and I adopted him without a home study or any involvement from Social Services. My lawyer presented the petition to the judge, published intent in the paper for 4 weeks, and then we went before the judge and the adoption papers were signed.
