we are a prospective family for one of our children's birth family members. Would anyone have information (as in possible reading) or input (from experience) on transitioning a child age 6 to 9 months? What about advice regarding attachment? Both our children came to our family at birth so this would be a new experience for us. If this child joins our family (and it will be soon if it happens), we want to be prepared to do all we can to help her bond to us. Your help would be greatly appreciated. TiA!
eta: Babe has been in foster care (I believe the same home) for at least six months. We have had one very short visit at a family function so no chance to really see her reaction. We will see her again this week.
I'd suggest going with alot of the popular attachment parenting trends for a start such as baby wearing, in-room sleeping (bassinet style), and alot of constant interaction, inc rocking and playing together.
Best of luck! and congrats!

when the transition time comes: a bear that has the smell of you can be given to her a week or so before so she sort of gets used to you. This can promote a senseof familiarity for her as she comes into your home with the new scents and scenes.
Dr.Sears books may be useful at this age, It also might be worth reading Toddler Adoption the weavers craft even though it is really meant for children a little older.
The best reference site ever...read every bit of it and the books mentioned on the reading for parents list.

Another great site is www.attach-china.org...I used both of these sites quite a bit while I was trying to heal my DS who was just 8 months old at adoption.
It is very overwhelming at first but worth the preparation. All the best.

Thank you! I started "the Weaver's Craft" again last night. Read it awhile back when we were waiting the first time around. Thank you!

Thank you for the links. I couldn't get the second to work but I'll google it. That first one, just looking at it for a minute, looks VERY helpful. Thank you!
