I'm 45, my new daughter is 8 months old. I've never breastfed. I've managed at least one miscarriage, but she's my first child. She's been bottle-fed until now.
I didn't pump before she arrived, because I only knew I was getting a baby sometime between December and when they called. Well, she's here now! I've had her for three weeks. Yes, I'm a bit disorganized, but I'm single, and I have a new baby!
Is there any hope? I mean, I am hopeful, this would be my dream.
Thank you for all of your guidance.
It is possible :) It will be harder than if you had milk already, or if she was younger, but my son was almost 8 months old and bottlefed when I started breastfeeding him. The best resource I know of for that is the yahoo group 1ABSupportGroup because several women on there have adopted older babies and successfully breastfed varying ways. Their stories are posted on there. Another suggestion is to do a suearch on breastfeeding older babies at placement on here.
