Hello, everyone! I'm new here and have been reading some posts and this appears to be a great group of people with a lot of answers and support.
My name is Joy and I live in St. Joe county. I am in the process of being foster licensed and SNAP approved. I'm pretty sure that my application for foster parenting was being reviewed last Monday. My case manager from the private agency that I am going through called to ask me a question about my new salary. She said that the state had called when reviewing my file because she forgot to put the new one in there. Also, I was to be presented to the SNAP committee at today's meeting. Sooooo after all of that information, my simple questions are how long did it take to hear an official word after each of those things. I just wondered when I could possibly be hearing about my license and whether SNAP approved me. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a wonderful evening.:thanks:

WOW.. FINALLY.. A st joe county member! I thought I was the only one!
I cant answer the snap approval questions. I can tell you that i started FAKT training Jan 2009.. finished 1st week in Feb.. ( nwe had a snow day and had to make that up ) I had my license I believe in April.. I guess in writing 4 months doesnt seem long.. but it seemed forever at the time.. probably because I had a relative placement already with me since Nov. 2008. Of course when i was advised to do these trainings and get licensed.. they made it sound like 4 classes.. done.. not the case. I have learned ALOT since starting this venture.. welcome aboard!!

Thank you. Glad to know that there is another St. Joe member also. I actually found out this afternoon that I was approved at the SNAP meeting yesterday. So, that was fast. Still waiting on my foster care license but I was told 4-6 weeks from when it is sent to INDY. Next week will be 4 weeks. So, are you fostering only your relative or were you open to other placements also. I'm wondering how long people in St. Joe have waited for placements. From the people I have talked to in class that were being relicensed, it sounds like they get a call pretty quickly. Have a great week!
If I remember correctly.. once all the paperwork is done. the actual copy of license is a formality. But.. I dont know where that falls in that waiting period.. it was only a year ago. I guess Ive moved on to other fish.. I am in the process of adopting my little man. I sometimes wish now that I could help with more than just him. I have learned so much from this experience. One that I have to admit I was left with really no decision of my own on. But.. this is where I am and I wouldnt have it any other way. But.. my house is small. I am only licensed for 1 and once the adoption is final.. I wont have room for more. I dont know if they allow emergency placements or weekend respite care to be.. "camping out " style.. I may look into it though.
That being the case.. I cant say how quickly calls are recieved. there sure seem to be alot of kids around here in care though..
good luck!
