I FINALLY got the court order to unseal my original birth certificate! I sent the order along with my application for my original birth certificate and check to Vital Statistics two weeks ago. On their website it says that it can take up to 16 weeks and the court worker told me that it could take as much as a year to receive it.
I'm wondering if anyone has experience with obtaining their OBC with a court order that can tell me how long it took to actually receive their OBC?
Congrads!! can you tell me how you did it? I am trying to get my OBC too and not sure how to go about it.
Thanks

They will not send me the copy of my original birth certificate that I paid Vital Statistics for. I have to travel across the country to go the court and "view" my own birth certificate. They will not make a copy. Unbelievable. Anyhow, today is my birthday and I'm hoping that this is the last birthday I have that I spend wondering who my birth mother is and if she's thinking about me. It will be worth the cost of traveling to find out her name and get some answers.
i talked to sacramento and they said with a court order you can get a copy of it? who is telling you that you cant?
you have to send it to sacramento california. can you tell me how you petitioned the court to get the order? Are thier specific papers you need to file? Where can i get them?
thanks

Yes, you are supposed to be able to receive a copy of your original birth certificate from Vital Statistics with a court order, an application form, and the $15 processing fee. Unfortunately, the judge who signed my court order in County of Fresno where I was born specified that the copy of my original birth certificate be sent to the Fresno Superior Court so I can schedule an appointment to come and view it. It states that no copies shall be made.
I found useful information, including petition forms at this website: Superior Court of California, County of San Francisco : Local Court Forms
So I went out to California and saw my original birth certificate, held it in my hands. I even took pictures of it with my phone when no one was looking. Then, I went back to the hotel where I was spending the night, got on my laptop and searched around the CA indexes and......I FOUND HER!!!!!!!!!! I spoke to her on the phone and she was so happy that I found her. WOW!
If you are searching -- don't give up! It took me years, but I found her and it was so worth all of the time and money I invested. I never thought this day would come. :woohoo:

That's strange. I requested 5 copies of my OBC from CA. Four address updates to them, a trip to Iraq and back, and a year later, I have those copies. But, I used a (c/o my adoptive father) California address, which might have been the difference.
