I left out some details I wanted to get your input on.
Up until last week, there was no contact with expectant mom or dad for almost 2 months to myself or their lawyer. When e-dad got a letter from lawyer stating they couldn't get their monthly support payment until contact was made, contact was then made. Medical records lawyer received showed no OB visit in over 2 months. E-dad said this was not true but lawyer stated she needed to receive med records showing so otherwise they could not receive their support payment.
E-dad actually called me yesterday to beg me for their support payment - lawyer told them we were withholding their payment until med records were received which is not the case and I told him so. It was the lawyers call. He then proceeded to tell me he thought e-mom would need bedrest (she hadn't been seen by OB in over a month so I don't know why he thinks that) and they would need more money for babysitter for other kids. He went on to say they could have hired a baby broker and gotten 35K but they chose us (why is he telling me that?). He said e-mom is approaching this like she is a surrogate. As an aside, I have had two wonderful conversations with e-mom earlier in her pregnancy but she is having too hard of a time right now to talk with me.
I told e-dad that we have lawyers to discuss the financial stuff so that it doesn't muddy the waters between our families and asked him to please discuss any financial needs they have with their lawyer. He went on to say he does not trust their lawyer - she makes them feel like they have done something wrong...she was not happy when she didn't hear from them for 2 months and med records showed they weren't seen for 2 months (thought I think this was a mis-understanding and lawyer over-reacted).
I am terrified that e-dad is in this for the money based on his comments to me. My husband thinks I am reading into this wrong but my husband is the most trusting person in the world.
Any advice? We are just a month away!
